I mean, sure, men were allowed to vote in 1920 and access higher education only in the past century, but you don't see a lot of male CEOs of Fortune 500 companies, and they still get paid in average 15% less than women. I could go on and on, about the inequalities that men face, on the topics of mortality rate, access to healthcare, and violence that they face. AND ON TOP OF THAT: NO FLOPPY SUN HAT???? This is B.S.!
this kind of legal technicality fuckery is so annoying. there needs to be a "jerk clause" that allows judges to throw out cases that are entirely based on the plaintiff being an asshat.
Have any of you every worked one of these giveaways? People will try to take anything that's free. I've given out giftbags after events (bags that include an Elle magazine, Dior makeup, facecream, etc.) and our policy is always one per couple. To make it easier we give it to the lady, since she's the one who's going to be using it. Some of the whiny dudes just kill me. Granted many of them are drunk as it's the end of the event, but it does not excuse being called a bitch or worse just because I won't give a dude some eye shadow.
"'I am sure my mom would be proud of my lawsuit against this major league baseball franchise that denied male and female consumers under 18 years of age free fishing hats based on sex and age,' he says."
That reads like a really bad SNL sketch. So, not getting a cheap hat counts as oppression these days?
Oh, mensactivism.org is a treasure trove of asshatery. Check out what this guy said about boycotting The Body Shop:
"Boycott "The Body Shop" anti-male campaign. The Body Shop for many years has been supporting and solicting donations from customers to "Stop the violence against women". This attitude is blatantly anti male; not recognizing male victims of domestic violence, blaming men for all violence and condoning violence against men by making it a non-issues. Simply going into a store and telling the manager that they will not shop at the store sends a warning to the management. Please pass it on!!!"
@Vivelafat says Sweep the leg, Johnny.: Little do these men realize that statements like this actively ENCOURAGE violence against men. And you know what? If men have a rape switch, then I have a Lorraina Bobbit switch. *Grumbles*
@stealthird: Honestly. Can you believe someone actually BELIEVES this shit? There are men out there that actually, really and truly, feel victimized. They are comparing themselves to JEWS before the Holocaust for goodness sake.
@Vivelafat says Sweep the leg, Johnny.: Man, I have read some stupid shit on that mensactivism website, but this takes the cake. Especially when you consider that Bodyshop knows very well what their demographic looks like. Management is going to be so scared to lose their practically non-existent male customer base ... rolls eyes
From the original article: "I'm surprised he didn't want his free mammogram, too." Rick Reilly is officially awesome. Now I'm just sitting here picturing Rava squeezing his own man boobs.
You know what? I bet Rava is one of those guys who would totally sue over a prostate exam, a la Peter Griffin.
But would we be saying the same things if it was a woman sueing over a prostate cancer awareness giveaway glove that only men got?(I'd like to think we would.) Yeah, it's only cheap baseball stuff, but would we? I mean, there are plenty of assholes of all genders out there.
Also, the only baseball-related prostate cancer awareness thing i ever hear about is when the Milwaukee Brewers have their yearly event that gives free tickets to men willing to undergo a screening on-site. And that is usually more a subject of discomforted ridicule than anything else.
@D'Amicos one good year: I think it would be like a prostrate screening day that was giving away free jock straps. No, I would not want anyone to sue. I don't have the right to free stuff, and I don't feel the need to get outraged about an event that is targeting a specific male disease.
@D'Amicos one good year: If it was a Fathers' Day promotion and they were giving out caps only to men, I doubt many people would take issue with it. It was a giveaway to celebrate a holiday that is specifically for women and to bring attention to breast cancer, largely a women's disease..
The Daily Show did a piece on a guy who went around suing clubs who did Ladies Night promotions. They made him look ridiculous, of course. The advice "Get a life" doesn't even come close to covering what these guys are doing.
He showed up at the game just so he could claim discrimination and sue. Gee. I think he should give that settlement back and also give back his law degree and apologize to his alma mater for taking the place of someone who would be using that degree for good and not bullshit. And the A's should do like they did in A League of Their Own, where they threw balls at a likeness of Hitler, only instead of Hitler it will be this guy's face.
