That movie was so powerful when I saw it when it came out, I left the theatre in a daze. Time to see it again!

@brendastarlet is on it: He's gonna have to pick 'em better. His taste is really up and down. Although I thought "25th Hour" was fucking brilliant and maybe his best movie since "Do the Right Thing."

@BeckySharper: his When the Levees Broke made me cry, and so did 4 Little Girls. But the others, not so much.

He reminds me of Woody Allen: he keeps making movies, some are modest hits, others disappear from theaters in a blink. But Woody had some big hits in his day and Spike has never done a well.

@brendastarlet is on it: I forgot about the documentaries! Haven't seen Levees, but I wept when I saw 4 Little Girls.

I think Spike's big pop culture contributions, oddly enough, were his late 80/early 90s movies about black culture, like School Daze, Do the Right Thing, Jungle Fever, and Malcolm X. They were just so REAL, and they opened up mainstream audience's minds. Since then, his stuff has been kind of blah and self-indulgent. I dont' think he has much edge any more.

@brendastarlet is on it: The Inside Man did very well. It's a great movie, and Lee did direct it, but I don't really consider it a Spike Lee film as he was not involved with the writing or pre-production.

@BeckySharper: I also thought 25th hr was brilliant. One of the few cases where the movie was waaaaay better than the book.
