Because, all during history, haven't we "allowed" "exceptions" to our various rules? No hitting the wife -- unless she deserves it! Don't hit your kids -- for no good reason!
And aren't those exceptions often bound up in supposedly religious readings of human behavior? And, finally, in this country, isn't Sunday inevitably associated with God/religion?
This feels to me like the sort of thing that makes you laugh: "HA!" and then go: "ooh, actually, that's not funny at all...."
(Or am I, just possibly, overthinking this is teeny tiny wee bit...?)

Although this study indicates that it occurs before games more often than after: [newsinfo.iu.edu]
They found that the number of domestic violence cases was inversely proportional to the point-spread. "That is, the more the team was expected to lose, the greater the number of domestic violence dispatches on game day," the authors wrote.
Hm. I just looked at what I wrote. "It occurs." Speaking of euphemism. Better version: "People, overwhelmingly men, beat up their loved ones before games more often than after."

Does this mean that outside of this neighborhood, I'm free to hit my significant other?
There are just too many things wrong with this sign...
