Beats my dad's "Sex Talk" while driving through the combat zone in Boston (after my mom found a drawing of a naked woman's butt in my 2nd grade notebook.)

"Sometimes when a man's with a woman he gets a feeling and has to do something about it...Understand?"

I figured I was due for a beating of some sort for drawing the picture so I just cried and said I didn't do it.

He offered no further explanation.

Took me about 8 years to finally grasp what he was talking about.

God bless the 70's.

Eh - inverted nipples .... ? Me thinks these are nipples that have not been excited enough - to be 'not' inverted...!

Inverted nipples means lack of excitement or lack something to get excited about. Not her fault but if she's feeling self-concious, or uncomfortable - it's likely her (any) nipples won't respond - along with the rest of her body.

Re: inverted nipples -- whether he'll care or not is totally not gonna be about the nipples, but whether he's impressed by you as a whole or not. If he thinks you're hot, fun, and into him, he won't care. If he's not all that into you, it might be a problem.

I've had to talk to my mother about masturbation. I went to college with a lot of awesome girls who were very open about ALL bodily needs and functions. So, I inevitably became more open about them as well. My mother was never closed about these things (she talked about pregnancy, sex and oral sex) but never talked about masturbation. I think that it was her "no-no" subject. One day, when I have moved out of the house, we had this interesting conversation about death and what people would find when they came to clean our homes (morbid, I know, but at the time it was appropriate). I told her that I had a "private box" in my room and that she'd be better off not opening it if she didn't want to know how her "baby girl got down". She started laughing and looked soooo embarrassed. A few days later, she revealed to me that she'd made her own homemade masturbatory apparatus (she's so gosh darn creative). The look on her face was a mix between the guilty kid who stole a cookie and pure mischievousness; cracked me the hell up. I like to think that I brought my mom out of her shell, at least in that way. The moral of that story is that as a parent, you don't have to broach the subject. Just let your child know through your actions that you would be comfortable and able to deal with it if they did.

I think the question is can your mom talk to you about masturbation? and i'm not talking about oh now you're married so now mommy can talk to you about sex, i'm talking about as a young girl going through puberty and body changes or maybe even college-aged. Is there anyone whose parents successfully talked to them about masturbation as a youngin' and not as a dirty thing? Now that would be pretty amazing because for the most part everything related to 'down there' was talked about as something that was dirty and needed to be covered up.

@Sookie Stackhouse: My mother always talked about masturbation as a normal, healthy thing, not as anything dirty. At the same time though, my mother didn't ask to go vibe shopping together, she let me figure that stuff out with my friends. As a daughter, I would have been very uncomfortable had my mom brought me into a sex shop. It is the whole "being your daughter's friend instead of your daughter's mother." Open and honest if she asks questions, great. Talking about how you love when her father uses a g-spot dildo/vibe on you? TMI in my opinion.
