Rahm Emanuel is awesome, IMO. He's hard core and doesn't have a filter so he tells people what he wants/when he wants. THere is a joke that he lost the tip of his middle finger (which is true) because of the heavy usage it gets flipping people off.

He got his start with the Clintons but he's on the fast track now - which is why he's having a hard time deciding whether to stay in the Congress or become Chief of Staff.

His office is in my neighborhood so I see him in the 'hood a lot. The first thing that endeared him to me was when I was on the bus one morning. I heard some guy constantly on his phone, I turn and see that it is Rahm. He got off the bus and a guy mentioned something to the bus driver. The driver says "Oh yeah, he rides the bus all the time" I decided right then and there that I loved him.

I would like to note, in regards to Denise Juneau, that she is not the first Native woman elected to statewide office in the nation (unless I am misunderstanding the definition of statewide office).(And also, yay for her!) Currently, in Alaska, we have Mary Nelson, a Yupik Eskimo in the House of Representatives. While I don't feel like doing the research to see if she is the first, I have a feeling we've elected a Native woman before. I just wanted to say why we in Alaska may be a disgrace right now, with Palin and Stevens, we have made some good choices.

Also, I have not seen a single woman's organization here that supports Palin. For example, our Juneau NOW website has a picture of her on the front page with the words "Not every woman supports woman's rights."

Goddammit, I can't believe Russia is trying to turn Central Europe into the playground where it can bully the rest of the world, again. And it's Central, not Eastern Europe - I sort of feel the need to point it out. The missile defense thingy is supposed to be built next to Prague and about sixty miles from the German border (Europe sure is small). It's not that far from everyone else in continental Europe. So why again isn't there more general concern about threats like this?

On a shallow note, doesn't marriage sort of partly blind you to the sexy in politics? As a friend of mine said yesterday when we were doing the election victory dance online, how could anybody want to vote for a resentful geriatric?

I was completely shocked by two things today. One: Condi, she does have feelings! Two: the revelation that McCain picked a running mate that could not name the countries in NAFTA and who did not know that Africa was a continent and not a country!!! She thought South Africa was just a state in Africa, what the hell are they teaching in Wasila?

I kind of have a crush on Rahm Emanuel. Also, I want to see the Obama administration put through a health care plan after listening to a friend explain that she is still paying down the balance on the birth of her third child three years ago, and chose not to have an epidural because "it would have cost $1500." if Rahm can't do it, no one can.

@PilgrimSoul: You know, I was thinking about it, and if Obama is only able to accomplish one big-spending program in his first year, I'd rather have a comprehensive energy plan. As someone soon to be without health insurance, however, it sucks that President Obama is likely going to have to choose.

Just to be completely shallow, the Obama White House: Hottest Ever, Y/Y? I would totes buy a White House calendar featuring Obama and Rahm Emmanuel.

More seriously, I've admired Rahm Emmanuel for quite a while, and I think he's a good choice for chief of staff. Someone up above called him the anti-Obama, and in some key ways that's true. Obviously, ideologically, they have a lot of commonality, but Rahm is brash, rude, and kind of an asshole, but he gets things done, and I really think that's key in chief of staff.

Thread jack. I don't post a lot, but I read just about everything on here. May I just say how much I love Jezebel. And Obama. Last night was one of the best (and most anxiety-provoking) nights of my life. As a proud black woman, there are no words for my joy. I laughed and cried at the same time last night when they announced he won. I am tearing up again (sorry). And I am so thankful that I've had all the Jezzies through these long hard months to remind me that the world is not as crazy as I thought it was and that rational thought and wild, crazy, irreverent, inappropriate, sexy humor can co-exist at the same time on one site.

I always thought I was pretty well informed, but I have learned so much about the world from this site and all it's participants. This may be the wrong place to post this, but I don't care! Big sloppy kiss from the panther to all y'all! (And yes, I have been into the wine.)

As deeply disappointed as we all are that California voters passed Proposition 8, we must not allow that disappointment to linger. This vote is a temporary defeat in the long march toward equal rights for all citizens in America.

Please join me for a protest rally tonight at 7 pm on San Vicente Blvd between West Hollywood Park and the Pacific Design Center (647 N. San Vicente Blvd. West Hollywood CA 90069) as we move forward towards restoring equality for all in California.

San Vicente Blvd, between Santa Monica Blvd and Melrose Avenue will be closed tonight starting at 6 pm. San Vicente south-bound traffic will be directed to make left or right at Santa Monica Blvd. Signs have already been posted to help divert traffic.
