Being engaged for a while is awesome. You get to have rad parties and make googly eyes at your fiance and no one cares because you're ENGAGED and you can change your Facebook status and register for things at Sur La Table with one of those sweet guns. It's a shame you won't get to enjoy all of these things.

At my mom's house (where my sister's dog lives) the whole coyote taking off with her is a distinct possibility & it happened to my mom's neighbor.
I would die if anything happened to my dog. Some people really do love their pets like children - they love you unconditionally. This hurts my heart big time for her, give this girl a freaking break!
And to add insult to injury - they plan on body snarking on her after this? Yes, let's capitalize on the pain, anguish & inevitable emotional eating?

My dad got a new dog last year, but he's just ...not the same. We had Chance forever, from the time I was eight to when I was sixteen. I really grew up with him. I still miss him sometimes, three years on, and I know my dad does too. :(

i had a dog who had to be put to sleep, but she was 17 years old and really sick by then, so we'd had time to kind of process it. i can't imagine what it would be like to have a pet snatched and killed so unexpectedly like that after having her for 5 years.

Pets are the best, especially the ones that you've cuddled with and loved and looked forward to coming home to for the past X amount of years. It hurts our hearts when they're gone.

I have done the same thing - wanting to get one that looks like her, but I will have to wait (it's far too soon and my life was a little too unstable for a pet in the first place, but she was a friend's who couldn't care for her anymore and I couldn't stand the thought of her going to the Humane Society). They really do become a real member of the family, don't they? I'm sorry that you lost him :(
@faerietales: Oh no. I'm so sorry for your loss, too. After you've had to care for them like that, it's just devastating. Emby (my guinea pig) was sick the week before she died, and I had to syringe her medicine and water, and I was doing it up until she died of a heart attack in my arms. It feels so awful and desperate.
@Betty Bea Getty: My dog is the same way right now. She's just gotten old, and has cataracts and is completely blind. I know she'll be shuffling off the mortal coil soon, so to speak, and we've had her since I was about 9 or 10. It's hard to watch things suffer.

I keep thinking of how terrified that poor dog must have been-ahh damnit. Can't do this at work. But I really feel sorry for her. Must pet my cats when I get home.

Looking back on it, it was a pretty dumbfuck thing to do, but nothing in me was capable of standing there and watching my big, goofy wuss of a dog get savaged. And at least I was there, and capable of doing (or dumb enough to do) something... I can't imagine how hard it would be, just watching and knowing I couldn't do anything.
