    @chritter: I think he is doing sit-ups under a Japanese table, the short kind you sit at cross-legged. The tablecloth goes to the ground for warmth. His hands are under his head sit-ups style, or maybe he is just resting after dinner with his hands behind his head. A lot of Japanese put a warmer under the table and they don't heat the house, so they pretty much hang out at the table all the time when the house is cold.
