I might be in the minority but I don't think she looks "sexed up", "slutty", "provocative" or "old" in her pictures. She looks like a lot of 15 year olds around the country look. Any girl can walk into Forever 21, Charlotte Rouse, or Wet Seal and get this look. It's really not that foreign. How long has it been since some of you went to high school? I think the styling is youthful with a touch of sophistication. Id rather see her in this than some "school uniform" that the editor wants to convey youth yet naughty school girl. #dakotafanningteenvogue

I get that she is "a normal teenager" by hollywood standards but she is by no means a "normal" teenager. Varsity cheerleaders and homecoming queens are far from the norm in an actual "normal" high school setting. Even if she does attend a structured, traditional school she obviously gets special treatment and an unlimited amount of excused absences. I would love to hear from students at her school as to what her experience is really like. #dakotafanningteenvogue

@bess marvin, girl detective: I know what you're going for here, I think, in regards to the way she was styled for this shoot, but I think you need to back this up/explain it better, as posting this comment without context (or punctuation) looks rather trollish. #dakotafanningteenvogue

I'm not hating, since I love Dakota Fanning, but the quote about high school made me very sad. Some of us never get to have those memories for reasons other than being famous. Part of it is the way this article framed it - Look how NORMAL and HAPPY she is! Normal and happy people went to highschool! I don't know. It upset me. I'm also very sensitive, lately, but still, it's one thing to applaud her for being a well adjusted girl in a crazy industry and another to go on about how normal and typical she is, thus implying that people who didn't do those sort of things when they were her age are abnormal. #dakotafanningteenvogue

@TurtleWexlerKickedMe: Not for everyone. I dropped out after about a month because of my health. I'll never remember prom. I'll never remember homecoming. I never had any of those things. I still think I'm a normal person. A person with some abnormal experiences, maybe, but I don't think I should be excluded from the abnormal category.

In my experience, people usually think of people who never attended regular school as being either religious or famous or stupid somehow. There are a lot of us who wish so hard we could have that "normal" experience, but we couldn't for health or monetary or any other number of reasons.

There's nothing wrong in my mind about saying that high school is a normal experience or that Dakota Fanning is a pretty normal girl. But implying that she is normal because she is going to high school can feel hurtful if you're used to seeing reminders about how your life has completely veered off the regular path.

Also, completely unrelated, but I love your username! Westing Game FTW! #dakotafanningteenvogue

@miyamyo: no one's saying you're not a normal person, obvs. But I think it's undeniable to call "attending high school" a "normal experience" in modern American society.

And thanks about the name :) #dakotafanningteenvogue

@TurtleWexlerKickedMe: With about 39 million Americans who never graduate, I'd disagree? It's only about 12% of the population (based on the numbers I got very quickly and so might not be all that accurate), but it's a lot in my mind, anyway. #dakotafanningteenvogue

@miyamyo: Meh. Never graduating doesn't mean they didn't ever attend high school, though. I mean, it's illegal to not attend school unless one is 16, right?

I'm not trying to fight or anything, it just struck me as someone being a bit overly sensitive. Going to high school is a normal experience for a kid in America. That doesn't mean it's universal, but it is normal.

Anyway, cheers and all that :) #dakotafanningteenvogue

@TurtleWexlerKickedMe: Oh, I never thought we were fighting! It's an interesting topic that is very personal to me, but I haven't had a lot of chances to see the other perspective.

It is technically illegal, yes, but for health reasons it is allowed, and there are several outside organizations that will enroll a kid and say they are in high school without having them attending any classes.

Perhaps I was being overly sensitive. It is a very personal issue that has brought me a lot of pain, and that most people never think about or notice. Normal can become an extremely loaded concept and I think it could be used slightly more cautiously. Saying that the majority of kids attend highschool isn't really hurtful, but saying that normal kids do (as this article implies) can be. When you have a condition that makes your life completely out of control, it's hard when you hear people talking about how normal and regular an experience is that you just never got a chance at, that seems so magical and foreign to you.

I've also been having a very difficult period with these very issues, so I am very reactive. But I don't think that more awareness of the variety of people's experiences is a bad thing. #dakotafanningteenvogue
