My cat does that, even if he has food in his bowl. He thinks he has to have it 'refreshed'. Seriously. New food has to go on top of the old food before he'll eat it. And he'll sit there and beg until he gets it. Not that cutely, though (almost).
He also eats with his paws. Anybody else have a cat that does that? He'll dig in his bowl, fish out a big clump and knock it onto the table, then eat it. Makes for a very big mess, the little bastard.
@kaiwhakamarie: My cat does that. (Not the paws thing, though, the needing-fresh-food thing.) I used to just pick up the bowl and shake it around, but he always saw through that.
So now I only respond to those kind of meows when the bowl is close to empty. Otherwise I just wait him out until he gets so hungry that he just eats it. He is not the only one who can be stubborn.
Or, in the words of my mom's license plate holder, "Do not start with me. You will not win."
I was doing well resisting the cute until she got up on her back legs and put her paws together and started *actually begging* for food. Then it was like jaw dropping, eyes tearing up, heart palpitating cuteness.
@Spaceman Bill Leah: Or 12 years old, has a hyperactive thyroid and is slightly anemic, and does that while three inches from your face at 4:30 in the morning.
@Spaceman Bill Leah: @nawanda: @Uncommon Whore: You all need an automated feeder. Cats rarely wake me up in the morning any more. Although, if I am home and awake, the meowing still starts about 1 hour and 55 minutes before feeding time.
@Alexis Brown: My mom's chihuahua lays on her back and does that to get you to rub her belly. It is so cute/sometimes infuriating because she never stops.
@otherginger: My cat always has dry food in her bowl, but she begs for the canned stuff I give her every evening. They know what they like, those kittehs.
@otherginger: That was my thought too! But if there is dry food in the bowl and my cat knows wet food is on the way, you'd better believe the volume on those meows gets turned way up.
@otherginger: If the kitten is anything like some that I foster, even with dry food in the bowl, they'll absolutely go bonkers if they even see me holding a can of wet food. They become acrobatic circus kittens!
@save jinger: My cat absolutely refuses to eat canned food. She will only eat her dry food, styrofoam*, or something that has glue/adhesive on it (like the lint roller)*.
*I do not encourage this. It just happens whenever I bring home anything that has packing/packaging.
@shorty63136: Oh no! My cat ate a little string once, and I was terrified. But the rest of the time she eats all sorts of cat food and many kinds of human food. She especially loves dairy products.

Yeah, I badly want a third cat but I think my boys wouldn't take kindly to it.
