    Isn't it travel manifesto that you absolutely despise the person you backpack abroad with by the end of the experience? You go with your best friend, then after three months you want to KILL them, then you come home, don't talk for a month, then you're best friends again. Why would anybody want that in a marriage?

    Besides, you don't want to sleep in hostels on your honeymoon, you want to sleep somewhere where you can have lots of sex. #marieclarie

    I always buy my gifts based on silly stereotypes. They're usually the wrong stereotypes, though, which is why everyone was so confused that year I bought my grandma a novelty sombrero, some top shelf tequila, and a sarape and my grandpa a collection of multicolored body glitters, a CD containing dance remixes of Cher's greatest hits, and a subscription to Honcho. #marieclarie

    You know, once upon a time I liked Marie Claire. I even subscribed, because they had a few interesting articles about women's issues internationally, some fun fashion bits, a little celeb gossip--overall, a decent read at the nail or hair salon. Now? Boringboringboringboring. I should donate the remainder of my subscription to a doctor's office, because every new issue that arrives goes unread for at least a week. #marieclarie

    I spent my honeymoon hanging with vagabonds too, but it didn't turn out so well, so we just jumped and rolled off the moving train the next town over.

    @sumerfish: So...just because someone has some extra money they don't warrant any consideration? Nice.

    It's fine to judge them for something like being selfish (if they were) or oblivious (which it definitely sounds like they were), but do you really automatically write anyone off who can afford a long trip?

    I like how Marie Claire and Cosmo are basically the archetypal gal pal characters from all chick fliks ever.

    There's Marie Claire who always wears pastel colored pants suits and saying things like "Sweetie, men are like [insert thing men are not like], you just have to [insert condescending passive aggressive action]. Then there's Cosmo who affectionately refers to everyone as whore and whose advice for every situation is "Whatever, stick a finger up his butt." #marieclarie

    The painted on cleavage on the cover is fantastic. It's Photoshop on a budget! How recessionista!

    Actually, 650,000 would solve a number of my current problems. Not all of them, obviously, but it would keep my out of default on my college loans. Which would kick.

    And the Capt. Obvious Award of the month goes to the woman who realizes that spending day in, day out with the same person--ANY person--for four straight months without the levening of family, friends, and outside interests will lead to prison-yard-esque fights.

    Also, they really should've altered the cover lies to read: "SEXY HAIR! (That you can't have if you are shorter or fatter than Blake Lively or else you will look shorter and fatter and people will laugh at you)

    and:

    9 BEST DIET STRATEGIES FROM AROUND THE WORLD!: (Tapeworm and Montezuma's Revenge will give you the abs you crave! Malaria will melt away the pounds! Being detained in a fascist country does wonders for your waistline!) #marieclarie

    Hidden beneath the idiocy of the related advice and the tragedy inherent in a company head staying with a partner who doesn't value her, this point is interesting:

    ... men are no longer pressured into becoming providers because, these days, more women can take on that role.

    I feel like this warrants some attention. Are we allowing men to move from being taken care of by their mothers to being taken care of by our hard work?? Could that be one reason why men reported being happier in that recent study? AND WHY IS IT ALWAYS OUR FAULT?? #marieclarie

    I'm having trouble with my husband now. I'm underemployed, he's just been laid off (hooooooooray, media!) and we're together CONSTANTLY.

    We're kind of figuring out that we don't have to be together all the time. I'm better at that than he is; I love ALONE TIME, and he knows it. So we're learning. It's like when I first moved in with him and just felt overwhelmed.

    He's also attempting to re-arrange cabinets and furniture.

    That said, he can be quite the kidult -- he's currently working on model airplanes to fill his lay-off time. Thank God he has his very own office/Man-Room. #marieclarie

    @NewsBunny: I'm glad you guys are working through it. That sounds tough. Plus throw in financial issues (not saying you have them)? recipe for disaster. I was supposed to have "work on crafts" night at my friends on tues and she texted me all, rain check? (redacted) and I have been going over our budget and its a little unpleasant right now. #marieclarie

    @bluebears: I know a few couples who quit their jobs and took really long honeymoons backpacking. They lived super cheaply, and somehow were able to get work again after returning. This is not something I can imagine doing, but I'm kind of envious. #marieclarie
