I'm not saying it's right, or fair, or the way I want it to be. But our most powerful possessions in this world are our lives and bodies, and violence is the only thing that can really pose a true danger to either of these things. I think, much like sex education, it's better to teach people how to channel their violent anger rather than total abstinence, because too many people are taught it's bad bad bad! (just like sex) rather than being like, yes, you are going to want to punch people from time to time. Go to the gym instead. Find a channel to vent the anger.

And the good part is, we grow up.

it would be great if people COULD speak to eachother, have the discussion, come to agreeable terms et al.
this has not so much to do with vocabulary to express ourselves as much as it has to do with the ability to comprehend we must often make concessions rather than always be "in control / in power"

But a good friend of mine was once walking through the center of town (Amherst, MA) with his girlfriend, and a drunk asshole stepped up and started harassing his girlfriend. My friend told the drunk guy to knock it off, and the drunk guy took one HELL of a swing and stove in my friend's cheekbone. It took him several months and a fairly major surgery to recover. (Mr. Drunk of course dissolved into the crowd, and "a brown-haired 5'10" white guy with a baseball hat" did not exactly narrow it down.)

Perhaps I am being too hard, but I see no use in such behavior, and look with great contempt on anyone who thinks hazing has a place anytime, anywhere.

The other half of it is that Greek organizations aren't the only ones on campus doing the hazing--athletic organizations do it at comparable numbers, if not more. (Hell, even my alma mater's marching band got in trouble several years in a row for hazing.) And in those cases, it's a hell of a lot tougher to leave than it is to leave a fraternity, since you're dependent on the team for a scholarship and might not even be at the school at all without it.

I mean, a group where you HAVE to be friends with everyone? Surely not everyone really loves each other like sisters?
What's the point of hazing anyway? I wouldn't want to join any group that would humiliate and torture me before they let me in. Although I have a seriously Groucho Marx attitude towards all clubs.

There are some bishes in my sorority for sure.

I always think this show is kind of bullshit when it comes to what the average person would do. Maybe the man at the very begining would have helped the girls, but he was only in town for the guys. Maybe the issue is people who get involved and not gender.
