Something I find interesting is that Hispanics are the fastest growing minority in the US, and it is projected that in like 30 years will be the majority group. What are Republicans thinking when they viciously attack Judge Sotomayor based on her Hispanic heritage? They are taking themselves right out of contention FOR EVER. And I love it!

on north korea: the people know nothing other than what they have, and only what the government tells them. they would be horribly frightened if we took over. meanwhile, the government officials have ph.d.s in manipulation. how do we know anything they say to us is true? it is all a lack of honest communication that makes this situation really really sticky. odd how the small problems we have in interpersonal relationships translate to such a large scale? it really speaks to the idea that you must really know yourself to know the world.

The Korean War was a legitimate conflict (unlike more recent such nonsenses) and it should have been resolved in the '50s. The whole situation is unnerving, to say the least.

Crazy conservatives believe any group that advocates for a particular race or gender or minority group has to be separatist or communist in nature. They don't like the idea that some groups experience discrimination and just might need an organization to help them get their voices in the public discourse because it challenges the idea that we are start out equal so if bad things happen to you, it's your fault and you should get yourself out of your own mess. I think organization on the grassroots level in general makes GOPers nervous because that's how unions get started. Teabag parties notwithstanding, of course. Those are just the natural course of human events, you know.

But for some of us non-Americans, all the craziness seen from the outside makes us feel like we're missing a piece of vital information that would make it seem less crazy...even though we aren't. If I remember correctly, FH is a fellow Canadian, and trust me, there's idiots here too. (Not the same, but: A provincial rep in the majority party where I'm from just made a public statement saying that a debate that went until 3:30 in the morning was an insult to democracy).
