At first I thought it said "Tyra eats cat's frozen dinners" and I thought to myself "Wow, I didn't know they made frozen dinners for cats". Oh, Sunday morning, you always scramble my brain.
So I keep hearing about how good Mad Men is, and I'm planning to rent it on dvd as soon as I'm finished with Arrested Development. I'm trying to decide if I should just get it now, though, because of the new season and everything. Is it really as good as it sounds/looks?
@Nariel: It really is that good. I thought I wouldn't like it because I'd heard it's pretty slow paced and subtle, but I LOVE it. So does my husband. We're just finishing season 1 and have all of season 2 on the TiVo (from the recent marathon).
@Nariel: Opposing view here but the husband and I didn't care too much for it (caveat: we've only seen one episode, season one). We found it to be too... I don't know. Dramatically campy? (We're both old enough to remember life in the 60s, so that might be affecting our view of the show.)
Every time I see Jon Hamm in (or out of) character, though, I think I need to give the show one more chance. *purr*
@Maritsa: Subtle is good. So much of TV these days is in-your-face, with as much subtlety as a rabid screeching cat dropped on your face in your sleep.
@Nariel: I don't like it, and here's why: Most of the main characters seem to lack redeeming qualities. I just don't like any of them as people. Even the women, sadly. I personally have a hard time loving a show when I basically despise all of the characters (see also: The Sopranos). But yes, it is a well-made show with lots of drama, so if you don't share my issues w/ the characters…you'll probably like it!
@leesie: If it was either the first or second episode of Season 1, I'd recommend giving it another chance if you feel like it. As I recall, they were pretty heavy-handed with some *winkwinknudge* references to the 60s that I imagine would seem really forced for anyone who remembers that time.
e.g. look! kids used to play with the drycleaner bags! They weren't strapped down in the back seat of the car! etc.
They toned it way down after that, and it greatly improved the rest of the season.
@leesie: I would try again. I watched the pilot when it first came out and was like, 'hmm, meh.' But then after the season was over, I caught up with the show online and was totally drawn in. It really builds into something great.
@Kivrin: I like that about it---that the characters are complex and not one-dimensional. It isn't a simple thing to watch the show and feel that one character is good, the other bad...because they all have both redeeming and repulsive qualities, it is a more complicated(and exciting) reaction, that I have when I watch the show.
But I definitely know what you mean...sometimes I'm just like, why did they do that? why couldn't they do the right thing? it feels like the writers' don't want to fill this expectation of the characters for us, or whatever. It can be annoying.
@Kivrin: I totally agree about The Sopranos, my husband loved it but I couldn't get into it because I hated the characters. But I love Mad Men even though the only character I really like is Peggy. I think some of them - not Roger though - have redeeming qualities. Even Pete, who I hate.
@Lorem Ipsum: I agree, the cinema verite style is a little overwhelming for me. The transition from one type of film to another in the middle was also a little 'blah' and draggy, imho. Still a great movie.
Posh Spice is apparently personally managed by Simon Fuller, who is now the head honcho at idol since Nigel left to concentrate on SYTYCD prior to this last season. Fuller is responsible for all the terrible changes they made this last season, chief among them the addition of the fourth judge. I totally see him ramming Posh into Paula's empty slot to finally get her a career state-side. Sad Face.

@tirso: Oh god, I forgot about that. I also remember hearing at one point that some of the centerfolds give copies to their parents. I know people have close relationships with their parents, but that's a bit too close.
Why does Spencer need yet another copy of it? I'm sure the 27 framed copies in their house, not including the life-sized one above their Holy Christian Multi-Orgasmic Marital Bed, are sufficient.

Needs a photo-op to give a ring,
That's why Douchebags all sing:
Spencer is our King!
Spencer likes porn and gin,
He always lets the photogs in,
Spencer and his flesh colored grin:
Spencer is our King!
Spencer is our King,
Spencer is our King,
We wank off to his wife's pin(up),
Spencer is our King!
