I like to think that she is like that evil kid from the Twilight zone episode, the one with the power to zap you out into the corn field. "You're a bad man! A very bad man!"
@dieTaube: I've noticed that Suri seems exponentially less freaked about paparazzos in general now when she's in her frilly dresses and heels with no coat. I figure it's something they let her wear to 'make up' for the fact she's basically walking camera bait.
@dieTaube: I find it totally...creepy. I don't know why, paired with her intensity, it's just odd. But, I am also all about letting kids get down with fashion. So I feel conflicted.
I always believed Nicole Kidman’s greatest acting role was appearing in public as the devoted wife of Tom Cruise. Mind you, I though her fawning over him was excessive at times as their bitter divorce later proved.
I really do not like Britney's comeback. I was never a fan of Ms. Spears, but the break down felt real and like a right response to the whole
"Look how Sexy she is! She is super special relatable and A V I R G I N" hype around her prior career. Now what she is doing is like sticking her back in the pre-breakdown mode with no inner thought to what caused this to become destructive. I wish she could live her life in something like piece and quiet and that what ever she is is not constantly being sold.
PR-wise, Tom Cruise hasn't fared all that well this decade, what with all the couch-jumping and the bad Scientology press, but his career hasn't exactly tanked yet. Of the nine major movies he's starred in since 2000, only one (Lions For Lambs) made less than $100 million domestically. Even Valkyrie and The Last Samurai made money at the box office.
I can't believe the magazines still make their money off the same people. Well, I can believe it... it's not like they're that creative. But it's mind-numbing.
This post makes me want to reflect on where I've been in the past 10 years...certainly not as scandalous as those outlined above, but also not nearly as shame-provoking...
@Scarlet A: The odd thing to me is that I feel like my life has changed way more than any of these people's in the last ten years. I'm reading the before and after on these photos and thinking "that's it?"
There was a line in Fringe that I think is one of the best lines ever, which went something like "Imagine yourself 20 years ago imagining yourself now. Would you ever in a million years think you'd be standing here?" I had never thought about that before, but my answer is an emphatic "no!" These people, though... I mean maybe they're a little rounder, they make a little less money, they have different partners, but more or less their lives are exactly the same as they were 10 or even 20 years ago. It seems like the life of most celebrities is the most boring and predictable thing ever.
@momo: Seriously. Especially for the Tom/Katie and Brangelina/Jennifer storylines. Practically nothing has happened since each group's drama began, unless you count children huge news. At least Britney and Lindsay actually have had real, new developments. I have no idea why the others are still having the same damn drama printed. Tabloids aren't even trying anymore.
God, what does it mean that I want them to try harder? Shudder.
I know this is an unpopular opinion, but I think in more recent pictures I've seen of Nicole she seems much happier than she has in a while. I think her leaving LA and marrying a fellow Aussie and living a more low-key life in Nashville where all the stars live in the same area and people are used to seeing them out and about has been really good for her. It's almost like she's comfortable now being who she is.
How come when BritBrit's dad intervenes she gets her life back with a radio-silent "conservatorship" and when Lindsay's dad does the same it's a tabloid frenzy of parental betrayal?
@pestified wants-a-Bush-tribunal: Lindsay's dad doesn't have a conservatorship. And Lindsay's dad also leaks her phone calls to the press and has essentially made a career out of publicly humiliating her.
@hortense: I know, it was meant as a smackdown to Father Lohan.
It just doesn't seem possible for him to continue harming her, unchecked, as he does. Where's the rest of the family?

Beyonce is the highest paid celebrity under 30 raking in $87 million a year.
I'm very proud of her, she had a dream and held on to it and worked her butt off for it. I hope she takes a long and well deserved break in the new decade.
She's a great painter and said she is going to enroll in art school I really hope she goes forward with that.
You've conquered Hollywood Beyone you owe us nothing else. Thank you for a smooth, funky, and crazy in love decade!
suggestions: Jim Carrey, Barak Obama, Michelle Obama, Madonna, Cher, Chaz Bono, SJP, Charlie Sheen, Neil Patrick Harris, Kelly whats her name from American Idol, Ellen Degeneres, Jessica Simpson, Paris Hilton...can't think of any more right now.
@Island of Misfit Toys: Pamela Anderson, Michael J. Fox. Jude Law, Sienna Miller. Carson Daily, Ryan Seacrest, David Letterman, Jay Leno, Craig Kinnear, Harrison Ford, Calista Flockhart. Robert Downey Junior, Val Kilmer, Robin Williams, Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Julia Roberts, Russel Crowe, poor Meg Ryan's face.
Man, I remember everyone thinking Britney's outfits were super-scandalous and way too revealing in 2000, but looking at that picture, her clothes seem so quaint and innocent.
Ok, does anyone else remember Penelope Cruz and Tom Cruise? I feel like I must have made that shit up, and now Nicole and Penelope are in a movie together and I don't see any press about it. Yet we all KNOW that if Angie and Jen were in a movie together all the tabloids would have a collective orgasm. WTF?
@seejanerun: I saw something about it recently (I forget which magazine), but the article seemed astounded to discover that Nicole and Penelope get along just fine, and that they actually find other things to talk about than Tom. So there is press, but it's refreshingly scandal-free.
@seejanerun:
YES thank you! I was just thinking about that. Wasn't it reported that Penelope was "dating" Tom Cruise while he was going through his divorce with Nicole Kidman.
@MalinaMango: Which is adult and all, and that's great. But Tom and Nicole broke up under very similar circumstances as Brad and Jen and no way will any of the tabloids let any of them forget that Brad left Jen for another woman. And I totally agree that Nicole is probably as grateful as Mimi Rogers to be done with it, but why the scandal around B&J but not T&C? Same circumstances, same level of celebrity. What gives?
@seejanerun: Tom and Penelope were together for awhile. She was his first relationship after the split with Nicole. Some hinted that it started before the split implying that she was the cause for Tom and Nicole divorcing. I think it's pretty clear that they split over his religion (CoS), although it's never been confirmed.
@Bitingpika: Mimi Rogers introduced Tom to CoS. Not sure what happened during the marriage, but afterwards she hated any mention of his name during interviews. (BTW: She had a child with a Tom Cruise look-alike.)
@seejanerun: I can't help but think that the major reason this is different is that people don't really like Tom Cruise. So there's sort of this conspiratorial quality of "Well, good for them for breaking up with him." If Katie Holmes were somehow involved, I think this would be way juicier.
That picture of Lindsay makes me want to go to LA or wherever the eff she's living and find that little girl from the picture. It's still in there somewhere, I just know it! What happened to her is so, so sad and tragic. I really, sincerely hope it turns around for her.
The Brad and Jen picture made me realize just why people can't stop talking about them. I was too young in 2000 to know or care anything about them but they both just look so young and happy together. So yes that's sad too but that was also ten years ago...can we just let them both be happy like that again, please?
@Nun Shall Pass: I disagree. That "poor Jen" press coverage has kept Aniston relevant and on the A-list far longer than she would have been, based on her movie performances.
@Island of Misfit Toys: I do wonder if she might have been able to break out of that rom-com mold had it not been for all the press, though. I can't imagine she actually wants to do the same type of thing over and over. Even if she's not a good actress, which I have no opinion on -- I haven't seen much of her outside of "Friends" -- don't most actors dream of an Oscar one day?
@Nun Shall Pass: You need the good roles to get the Oscar.
When casting for the role: Is it better to be high profile and thus more likely to bring in the money which helps the movie do well (Jen Aniston) *or* is it better to be less known but more respected and thus able to carry off the part (Lisa Kudrow)
I don't know.
The English Patient was wonderful and cast lesser known British actors Kristin Scott Thomas, Ralph Fiennes and Willem Defoe. The movie studio wanted Demi Moore and John Goodman for two of the roles. Fox walked away when the producers balked.
I think Jen's underrated as an actress. There was Good Girl, and Picture Perfect with its completely implausible plot (but also with Kevin Dunn and Jay Mohr), and that other movie with Shirley McClaine and Kevin Costner whose name I can't even remember - which I think only underscores the point that the actress not only has to be talented, but also has to have the right part and the right vehicle for the whole Oscar machine to crank up "properly".
I mean, despite Se7en, and Fight Club, and Legends, and Spy Game, and being buds with George C., Brad doesn't have one either.
(Not that I have a problem with that, and obviously not that that doesn't mean I won't run and go see his movies. Especially with Redford - I know it seems like they have a mentor/-tee-ship thing going on there, but I really like them together.)
(Sorry for the Teal Deer. The thought really didn't start out that way ...)
