I hadn't realized she was only 26 when she died. I find that really upsetting for some reason.

One of the strange things about hitting the big 3-0 is looking back at all of the celebrities that died young - Sharon Tate, Jimi Hendrix, Kurt Cobain, River Phoenix, etc. - and just realizing how very YOUNG they all were. When I was a teenager, someone in their 20s seemed quite adult to me, but now I look and I just think how young those people all were, and what a waste it all has been.

This woman was BEAUTIFUL! She will forever be one of the prettiest things that have walked this earth and her death is a travesty. I understand the idea of class wars, but the explanation given for murdering this woman in such a way is revolting and while I do look at her as a style icon, to not recognize the torture thrusted upon her is even a bigger travesty.

She was so darn cute. But, the way she was murdered is so deeply disturbing it's always hard to try and push that from your mind.

@pele tiger: I hear what you're saying. I don't know though, how much we'd remember her as a "style icon" if not for Manson. I mean Anita Pallenberg was a 60s style icon or Edie Sedgwick. You know? I mean, I'm not saying this is "wrong" I'm just saying its troubling.

This is why I'm slowly (as funds allow) morphing most of my wardrobe into dresses. Dress = wake up, put on, go. The days I take forever to get ready are the ones where I really want to wear that shirt, but the only pants that match it are dirty...oh, wait, I love this skirt! What shirt, what shirt...ummmmmmm...ooh! Oh damn, when did this lose a button? Ummmmmmm...

I try to minimize time spent thinking about clothes by planning out what to wear the night before. The BF knows not to talk to me when I'm lying in bed and looking like I'm concentrating really hard. However, I could be sleeping during this time, so my system is not flawless.

I'm gonna go ahead and admit that I take a TON of time to get ready in the morning and I try on outfit after outfit and it is deeply rooted in insecurity, not in practicality or fantasy. I try this on--think i look fat. or too boring. or too casual. or too mature. or too immature.

I blame wearing a uniform to school from grade 6-12. Oh I miss those wonderful wonderful days. I would happily revert to a world where on workdays, we all get up and put on a plaid skirt, navy socks, mary janes, and a big baggy button up shirt. And I DO love clothes--but I would love to not have to worry about them every single day.

@lucystrawberry: Tier 2 is the new black:

The biggest clothes horses I know wore school uniforms. They're also into accessories with a passion that frightens me (I guess that socks and headbands were their only means of self-expression at school).

However, after working my current office job a few years, I am actually dangerously close to having a uniform of my own: black pants (I own 1 pair) and one of 5 different v-neck, 3/4 sleeve shirts. In the winter I will add a sweater to this. Getting dressed takes less time than making coffee, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

True story: I really don't spend a lot of time figuring out what to wear, however there is this soccer game coming up and I cannot decide what color t-shirt to wear. I've been thinking about this for weeks!
Should I wear my country's colors, my favorite team's, colors, a neutral color? Why am I worried about this and not what I am going to wear to a management meeting or the gym?

Each time I do my laundry and put away my clothes, eventually my entire wardrobe will find it's way to my floor. It can take ages to find something specific under this enormous pile of clothes, especially if I'm looking for something black.
I estimate that I have spent about 15 years in my 28 years of life looking for a specific black sweater in a pile of black clothes.

Don't get me started on accessories!

@LadyFabulous: Sr. Zinha and I have nice neat baskets for the dirties (one for the colours, one for the whites), but we both hate folding, so all the clothes just end up in the waist-high mountain in our bedroom. Trying to find a mate to a tiny 6-year-old's sock takes forever and is probably the reason I have high blood pressure. If we just folded it, it wouldn't take so long, but somehow, that logical process never gets to either of our brains.

This is me in a nutshell because I've never, ever been a jeans and t-shirt kind of girl. I can't do simple. I'm not eccentric, but I like to look less than ordinary. Thus, throwing on whatever I have lying around doesn't work for me. And thus, I spend copious amounts of time trying to figure out what to wear and how to wear it. And even if I find the perfect outfit combination, I almost never repeat the whole thing. It loses its allure during the second wear.

In other words, I have a very tenuous relationship with my clothes.

I'm not a very clothes-oriented person (as long as its clean and basically appropriate for the occasion), but averaged out over my whole life those few minutes each morning will add up. Any time you add up all the little minutes you spend doing little things each day they will look like a hell of a lot of time over the course of a lifetime.
