    When I was 10, I was in a play at a local, professional theater. I was the lead and was basically in every scene. Of course, being 10, one of my parents was at every performance of the show, which ran for almost 4 months 6 days a week, 8 shows a week (Mon-Fri matinees, Fri & Sat nights). Schools would come to see it for field trips, because it was based on a popular children's book. I later overheard my father say that every time he saw the performance, he'd inevitably start to cry because he was so proud of me.

    I mean, it doesn't exactly make up for drinking a box of wine on Christmas and joking about how he should never have had kids because 2/3 of them ended up dirrty libruls, but it certainly takes out the sting a little. #johntravoltaellen

    Father-daughter relationships just KILL me. Kill me dead.

    The only time my dad has teared up, cried a little, actually, was when I was leaving to study abroad. I remember just sitting there in SFO waiting for the very last minute I had to go through security, and he just started weeping.

    I don't know what it is, exactly, about fathers and daughters. Not every woman I know has the relationship I have with my dad. Maybe because as women we're so used to being taken for granted that it's just heartwarming to see such love and respect? I don't know...

    @Penny: oh gosh. you are making me tear up. I was always my dad's little girl and when he died so many people told me that it was me they were most worried about.
    we clashed a lot over silly things (in hindsite), but he never held back in telling me how much he loved me. #johntravoltaellen

    @SomeAuthorGirl: I thought the same thing! I think that, had this happened on the View, they would have zoned on his tears STAT, but Ellen just shifted the focus to Ella, who is absolutely lovely!

    It's hard to be the only child after a sibling passes away. It's a weird sort of desperate love your parent(s) develop for you. But I may be projecting.

    @Ulookinatmyjunk, JOC: It is neither weird nor desperate. As someone who has lost a family member, there is a greater love and appreciation and a much stronger bond. The loss of one family member can feel like losing half of the family. #johntravoltaellen

    @cinematheques: I'm talking from the perspective of being the left behind sibling. I'm one of two children and my older brother died. My mom was a single mother, so I did essentially lose half of my family; not "like" I lost half of my family - I did lose half of my family. I appreciate my mother much more and vice-versa. And while it may not be weird for you, your feelings really aren't mine. Everyone processes grief differently. Now, my choice of words may have implied that there was a negative connotation. But I love that my relationship with my mother is "weird" in the sense the we are closer and more tightly bonded than many mothers and daughters I know. And the feeling of desperation comes from wanting to make sure that one another knows how passionately they are loved. Hope that clears it up. #johntravoltaellen

I lost my dad several years ago, so me, my mother & my sister went through a surge of emotions that ended up bringing us closer. I could never take them for granted now, its like the relationship between all of us changed completely. #johntravoltaellen

    This isn't new, unless the "new" aspect is picking out the housemates. They had a whole show like this already, called, if I'm not mistaken, True Life: Jersey Shore or some such. But it was a full season, not a regular TL episode.

    @BytheSea: sorry - its what the locals call the tourists. stems from the trainstops. Bayonne Elizabeth Newark New York. BGH (Benny's go home) is a big mantra for locals in the summer. However I worked at a restaurant by the ocean ever summer of college so I'm quite thankful for the benny's and use the term quite affectionately. #mtvjerseyshore

    So, they're making a show with more tacky/gaudy people in it. Where the hell do they get these people? Also, "guidos?" Why would anyone want to present themselves as low-class and garish (which is what that word means with added ethnic elements, Italian to be exact)? Wasn't the word once a slur against Italians?
