I have a serious question - how is this posting NOT just repeating gossip?
I think it's fair enough to post about these things if you are going to posit some kind of contextural argument - missing kids/racism in the media, the perniciousness of 'unnamed' sources, family dynamics, etc.
There is none of that here. It is merely free publicity for People magazine. Please tell me if I'm missing something.
There's some cruel irony that Casey's family wouldn't let her give up the baby for adoption (if I remember right), and so of course I think abortion was never an option. Not to say that all women who aren't allowed to abort end up like this-god no. It takes a special kind of sick and twisted. But it seems like this family had their priorities fucked up. "No, you can't adopt it or abort it! How would that look? No, instead, you're going to murder it, then we're going to help you cover it up so we can be on Nancy Grace."
Here's an idea: dump all of the effort generated into dissecting each and every minute detail of this child, and her family's, lives, into finding and convicting her MURDERER.
This isn't wondering whether Suri Cruise's fashion imitates Lindsay Lohan. This isn't gushing over the Jolie-Pitt twins. A child is DEAD, and her death should never be exploited to sell magazines.
So did the anonymous source get paid by the juicy tidbit? Perhaps a percent return on the tear jerking factor? Maybe it was a standard hourly wage/lump sum. Guess they don't print that in the article. Journalism at its finest.
Does any of this matter? The child is dead. No matter what route caused this poor, sweet, innocent girl to come to this end, bad family life or no, Casey Anthony has a lot to answer for. Even if she didn't kill Caylee (and the preponderance of evidence doesn't look good for Casey's innocence), it was her reckless life and disregard for her own daughter that led to this.
@NefariousNewt: I cling to a small hope that some teacher or neighbor or babysitter will read this and decide to report something they've had a bad feeling about before it's too late.
@BlondeGrlz: Whatever it takes. But the lurid details of the Anthony family don't interest me -- finding Caylee's killer interests me. And I'm willing to bet the crime lab is going to discover the bits that put that duct tape in Casey Anthony's hands.
On a side note, that picture brings tears to my eyes every time. I even put it in a blog post, and now it's hard for me to read it.
Stories like this are the equivalent of rubbernecking. This explains nothing; as several have already pointed out, a dysfunctional and abusive family life does not always lead to murder.
It's kind of gross, and I bet a lot of people read this stuff and feel good about themselves afterwards. For feeling sympathy and for not being this family.
@ApteryxAwl: I don't know because I avoid it at all costs. (Riiight, which is why I'm on this thread.) I should say I avoid all actual real news about this. But, my sister is on it to the extent she's sitting in front of Nancy Grace every night -- or whenever it's on -- and can't quit talking and thinking about it. Maybe it just strikes a chord with certain people. My sis is someone who gave up a child for adoption when she was 17, so maybe that's part of it?
@ApteryxAwl: Because at least one reporter - Nancy Grace - is making it her primary focus and constantly reporting on it. Also, it's cute white girl who gets murdered by family. Happens all the time to small children, sadly, but they're not always cute and white. Those are the ones that get media attention.
@ApteryxAwl: Okay, I will shamefacedly admit I have been pretty fascinated with this case. Mainly because it's really bizarre and not remotely straight-forward. I mean, Casey has told all these outrageous lies and stood by those lies even when confronted with the tru
This situation is beyond sad, beyond heartbreaking, there are no words..... However I do believe that the whole family knows more than they're letting on. Let's just hope that Caylee can finally rest in peace....On another note Nancy Grace just needs to find a new case to fixate on.
This isn't any of our business. Who is this source and why are they contacting people? It must be the defense that represents Casey, trying to paint her as a victim in a family of abuse. I know that's a silly hypothesis, but if it's not them, who is it? This is so sad and terrible, I wish they would let this little girl rest in peace.
