Kinder classes only use natural light, wooden toys (usually very simple things, like wooden dolls without faces.), and the kids don't receive much direction from teachers - but in a positive way!
I really wanted my kids to go to Waldorf, but we can't afford it. Oh, well. We can still bring out the rolling pin for some homemade cookies in our family kitchen. :)

waldorf schools are very different to normal schools - kids write their own textbooks and everything is handmade/handcrafted. it is rare to find something that is not "natural" in their schools. i like the idea of it, but it doesnt work for every child that's for sure.

See how they rolled the cookies onto parchment paper? Do that, just roll out your dough onto parchment cut the size of your cookie pans. Then, cut out your shapes - peeling aways the "extra" dough and leaving the cookies in their original spot.
Carefully transfer the entire piece of paper onto your cookie sheet and bake. Et voila! perfectly shaped cookies w/out the drama.

On student poverty and cookie baking: a couple years ago I had a friend (who later became a terrible roommate) who baked cookies for everyone for Christmas. She even went to another girl's apartment to use her stove, as she lived in the dorms. The cookies tasted like crap. So please, if you are giving cookies as gifts, PLEASE taste test beforehand.

My husband's a pie man, actually.

I will say, however, that getting an egg poaching insert for a deep fry pan was a good idea. With him, it's not the way they're cooked, but the frequency with which I serve them. We both love eggs, and poached, I can make four in five minutes. We have English muffin sandwiches and eggs Benedict pretty often, especially when I have yolks to use up in hollandaise sauce.

We did breakfast for dinner last nigth and (gasp!) my husband cooked the eggs!!! Scrambled. I was happy to get a meal I didn't cook and that I didn't have to eat while bouncing a baby in my lap.

Then there are the candies that we make. My kitchen is in total chaos at the holidays and I absolutely LOVE it.
