Also, CHers, we are about to lose our morning gathering space and I will miss you ll, and so, even if you don't celebrate Christmas or (like me) you hate it (I am using Jez to avoid my 'rents this morning), merry Xmas, you fucking dyke lesbian bonerkiller feminazis.
@Megan: A political/policy component to Jez is important. The new administration will come in and I expect a lot of changes - and they will affect everyone. I really enjoy Megan's back and forth via CH (and the links) and it will be missed.
Chris Cox, you've earned today's STFU. As if NJ were not already looked upon poorly by the rest of the U.S., you had to go and make sure we got shit on royally. Merry F-ing Christmas.
Karl Rove wants so badly to still be relevant and he just isn't anymore. He'll be standing on a street corner, raging at innocent passersby in 3...2...1
In all seriousness, though, he's not an angry dude. I've watched him on Fox, at least during the election season.
He's fairly calm in explaining his ridiculous hypocrisies without the least bit of reflection and insight. It's why he was the perfect whatever he was for Bush.
The caganer (Obama doll) is a tradition in Spain, and isnt meant to be an insult. Its actually a handmade, limited addition, and goes with their nativity scene. Not every politician gets to be a caganer, and its meant as a compliment.
ps. megan - i live in madrid, if really want one i can try to get you one. i assume you have my email?
@spelle: I do not have your email (we don't have access to that sutff) but you have mine and I will trade you something from stateside if you pull it off ZOMG so excited. Will PM you now, too.
@AthertonMerriweather: Second that. In fact, I just don't understand having the time to do that kind of crap incessantly, either. I have enough problems with texting, emailing, Facebook, JEZEBEL...sheesh.
@AthertonMerriweather: Well, you don't have to use it to say inconsequential things. And also, a bunch of your friends can see it at once, and you can see a bunch of things that other people are saying at once, so it's easier (though still not always possible) to find something interesting.
Also, I'll get in trouble if they see me texting too much.
@rosasparks, @et al: It depends how you use it. I have a feed reserved for the 20 or so people I'm likely to want to organize a trip to the bar or the movies or a show or dinner with. It's really convenient for that purpose, as it saves you the trouble of a-la-carte texting or accidentally leaving a friend out of a certain set of plans.
Why is Twittering arrogant? People have to choose to follow you, so they're expressing interest in your small random thoughts or occurrances. Blogging is much more arrogant. And none of this is increasingly out of the mold of socially-acceptable communication anymore.
You know what is arrogant, though? Emailing someone you don't know to call him an asshole after he declines to let you onto his private feed reserved for planning activities with his close friends because you think reading his blog entitles you to know what movie he's going to on Friday.
@AthertonMerriweather: It's useful for company feeds like special discounts, new stock, and the like. Monterey Bay Aquarium will post links when they update the safe catch list or if the sea otters have done something especially cute on video. I don't view any different than a Facebook update except it's limited to 140 characters.
@AthertonMerriweather: call me old fashioned but on the rare occasions that I actually want to see people, go to the bar etc, I er pick up the phone and call them. I know, I'm clearly out of touch with the way the world is moving.
@Too Hot For TNR: I would add to this that I used to have an open Twitter feed figuring that no one cared except a couple of people like Spencer and Braak. Then someone random who was following me sent one of my Tweets into my friend Hunter (and his boss) at Media Bistro, meaning my friend Hunter (who followed it! but had a sense of propriety) was asked to publish it, pissing me off. I made it private and don't let people I don't know follow me. I now get one request a day to read my random thoughts.
@nyc-caribbean-ragazza: Yes, they went to Breyer or someone, you know, reasonable first, and he was like, BISH PLZ. So they took it to Thomas, natch. On the other hand, even Scalia is smart enough to see that this business is a total non-starter and a complete waste of the Court's valuable time. It takes four votes to grant Cert, and truly I can only see Thomas and maybe Alito going there. I don't think they're going to hear the case, especially after the fallout from Bush v. Gore (which was an atrociously bad and wrong decision, but for which the justification for hearing the case was at least legitimate-ish.)
Personally, I'm also sick of all this mainstream media bashing. I know that it has a lot of faults, that television news is atrocious and that budget cutbacks to appease shareholders make papers turn out progressively worse products, but it is still an important place where news gets dug up, evaluated and disseminated.
The smearing of the mainstream media's reputation and the lack of trust that people have in it is the result of a purposeful campaign by the reality challenged and our own incompetences. It really helps propagate shit like this because there are no longer sources that everyone can agree upon, there is no point of common fact that everyone can turn to and say "Hey, they're saying this in these few places can we at least agree on that?"
It hurts our ability to have a reasonable dialogue and come to the middle between two opposing viewpoints. It's the same thing that folks try to do with science denial, create a wedge and work people apart until they're no longer even agreeing on basic facts.
Don't get me wrong, there are a lot of great blogs out there that are doing a lot of good work pulling together different sources and digging up their own information to break stories. I mean, my feelings there should be clear based on the fact that I'm here, taking this seriously and have a huge nerd crush on Megan.
They're only going to get better as mainstream reporters migrate into the business and the blog environment coalesces into bigger and better HuffPos and Jezebels.
@rmric0.yes.we.did!: I nominate Democracy Now and Amy Goodman for consistantly reliable news with no guff. Plus she is receiveing the Alternative Nobel Peace Prize next week, so mucho props to her.
Folks, it's obvious we're not going to sway him/her. "Drinking from the Kool-Aidâ„¢" is an apt phrase, because when one decides to believe whatever they are told, by people of less than stellar reputation, they may as well have moved to Guyana themselves.
As I've stated, this issue would have manifested itself before the election, if Obama had not been able to present sufficient proof of citizenship to be placed on the ballot. That's it. If crazy people want to challenge it, fine. They will lose. Then they can go back to their quiet suburban homes, flip on the computer in their library, and continue to blog about about the vast "left-wing conspiracy." And we will not have to read about it.
@NefariousNewt: i dont think there's a left_wing conspiracy. it's funny you should assume im some crazy right wing mccain nut. im so far left that i think calling obama 'progressive' is an insult. this whole election was an insult to all of us who are awake and have been sickened for the last 8 years only to watch everyone else get duped by a false prophet.
i probably shouldnt even mention him being related to odingo from the luo tribe and all the voting fraud that went on there. but at this point what the hell. im ready for 'worst comment of the day!' or whatever.

well, we know that voting fraud is genetic so you may have a point there.
@dchan: Have you ever even READ the comments here? I am 100% sure that the vast majority of us are far more progressive than Obama, and I don't think one of us thinks he's perfect. It's just such a blatant lie you're pushing about us.
