Oh man, I totally love Sesame Street and honestly believe the world in its entirety -- not just kids' TV -- to be a much better place for its presence in our lives...

...but did she HAVE to say "impactful"? It's not a word.... Even Firefox knows it's not a word! Oh, sigh.

About ten years ago, I had tried to get some directors I repped in on the updated collection of all those great Sesame Street songs and Ms. Cooney went out of her way to be so nice to me, invited me to screening, etc. She really didn't need to be, I was out of my league, but she was really supportive and open and great.

So I am a big fan of hers. And, of course, of the show.

There will always be a special place in my heart for the Sesame Street Aliens.

Their song "Yip Yip Family" is one of the ones I can still remember after years and years. Also, would didn't love "Letter B" (to the tune of "Let It Be") and "U Really Got a Hold on Me"? Genius!!

@daisen-in: Me too on the "Yip Yip Family"! I remember when I was five and we first immigrated from Russia that was one of the first things I heard in English. My dad is apparently so touched by that song that he still sings it to me to this day, 17 years later.

I really really loved Grover. He was kind of goofy, and liked to do silly stuff, and never whined about being blue and furry. I still aspire to love myself as he loved himself.

I was terrified of Sesame Street when I was a kid. My stomach still gets a little fluttery when I see those damn puppets.

@jello_mix: I've got to ask - how does a kid become terrified of Sesame Street? I get that kids can become scared of all kinds of weird things because of some experience or thought put into their head by mean, nasty older brothers (I'm looking at you Chris!) but I've curious as to how this happened with Sesame Street? And did it crossover to the Muppets? The Labyrinth? All puppets or just muppets?

@SydneyGal: Puppets, Muppets, clowns, ET, anything that derived too far from how humans look, but acted like a human being. I hated them all. Hello Kitty was horrifying because of her enormous head. "Where the Wild Things Are" made me cry at just the sight of the cover. Why? Who knows. The same reason I carried crickets in my pockets and sneaked caterpillars into the bathtub, I suppose. I hope my kid isn't like me.

@safi: Indeed! Sadly, they have replaced that song with "A Cookie is a Sometimes Food". It is a nice little ditty, but doesn't have the joy of "C is for Cookie".

@missviolaswamp: I'm old school. Mr. Hooper, invisible Snuffy, and no frickin' Elmo. They can mess with it all they want, but I still remember that C is for COOKIE and that all alien puppet things say, "Yip, yip, yip, yip, uh huh, uh huh." Kids today just don't understand.

@safi: I recently YouTubed the bit where they tell Big Bird about Mr. Hooper (I was out of the country when he died, so I never got to see it) and I just cried and cried. And then I watched Big Bird sing "It's Not Easy Being Green" at Jim Henson's funeral, and cried and cried some more.

Thankfully, my husband loves me just the way God made me.

I'm going to have to podcast this one for listening to on the bus - Sesame Street is great! I watched it with the daughters and it felt like nothing had changed, except that Elmo was a much bigger star than when I was younger. Obviously he'd grown into his talents.

Favourite character: Snuggleupugus.

Favourite song: REM/Michael Stipe singing Shiny Happy Monsters.

Favourite crossover: when Big Bird was on the West Wing.

I cannot freakin' wait to watch this show with the ovumlord. I was such a huge Sesame Street kid. I even forgave them for inducing my crippling fear of goldfish.

Related: when will Bert and Ernie stop dicking around and get together? Or do you all think that would make the show jump the shark?

@sarah.of.a.lesser.god (and the ovumlord of the rings): I've often wondered this, and also about the bananas in pajamas. I mean, we've got two guys living together who never get out of their pyjamas and are gigantic phallic symbols, and then next door, there's a guy shacked up with two girls. Plus they're always at the beach and seem to have plenty of money to spend anything they want without actually working.

I always suspected a drug-smuggling ring, probably with Rat's shop as a front.

B&E used to sleep in the same bed, but it was toned down.
