I like these pictures of kids because it treats them as people. It's kind of like seeing kids the way they see themselves. When I was a kid, I never thought, "Oh, I am so cute and childlike and innocent!" These are pictures of kids being kids -- goofy and serious (albeit in clothes that way cooler than anything I had as a kid) -- not being cherubic or precocious to project an image for adults' sake. I don't doubt that the pictures are artificial as hell -- staged and styled -- but they get across something authentic about childhood to me, if that makes any sense.
# 3 is basically how I dress now, dork glasses included. And the exaggerrated nerd look on his face is my natural expression. So as a 20-year-old female, I am exactly as cool as an ironic 8-year-old French boy. #milkmagazine
I would like one of each, please. If the delivery of a gaggle of kids to my home is not possible, I would like a subscription to this magazine immediately. And the little girl in #8 looks so much like the tiny Frenchman I used to nanny for I got misty. He was the cutest, Frenchest little guy ever. And he dressed better than me. #milkmagazine
Dodai, I am totally obsessed with Milk as well, and I buy every issue. I first bought it when I was doing some design work for a friend's children's line, and not being familiar with anything having to do with kids, I grabbed a stack of kid mags. The art direction is so cool, I love it.

MILK is one of my favorite magazines ever, and I also have no children. The clothes and kids found in their pages are amazing!
What I like even more are their cool stories on parents. They had a great story last year about interracial couples and their kids. They always feature artists parents too! OK, I could go on all day. #milkmagazine
Adorable though they may be, the outfits and the surly looks they’ve been instructed to give smack of effort, which is jamais attractive. #milkmagazine
Weren't we up in arms about this magazine a few years ago when they had a woman squirting breastmilk at the camera? Or am I thinking of another trendy childrearing magazine? #milkmagazine
Where can one get this catalog? Any time someone asks when I am having kids I want to point to #4 and say "We're saving up for this one!" #milkmagazine
After studying/nannying in France for a year, I realized I'd never be as cool as my five-year-old charge who wore navy blue highwater pants and carried a leather satchel--and spoke a pidgin of four languages. Thanks to America for encouraging the mediocrity that are Levis and really bad language skills.
Is it sad that I (at 32) want to be a 5 yr old French kid? Preferably wearing the red pants in #17. #milkmagazine
