An Australian judge has ruled that an internet cartoon depicting characters from The Simpsons engaging in sexual acts is child pornography. Alan John McEwan was convicted in a local court when the images were found on his computer, but he appealed the decision all the way to the Supreme Court. He ended up having to pay a $3,000 fine and enter into a two-year "good behavior bond" as a result. The judge said that he would've served jail time had the images been actual people. Jeff Rosato was, until Friday, the counsel to Senator Barbara Boxer at the Environment and Public Works Committee that she chairs. She fired his ass on Friday after he got arrested on child porn charges. Earlier this year, Rosato sent more than 600 child porn images with a detective that he thought was a 13-year-old boy. Strangely, Rosato is the second staffer for a female Democratic West Coast Senator arrested on child porn charges in the last year the first was Michael McHaney, who worked for Senator Maria Cantwell at the time of his arrest. A 15-year-old has been arrested in Ohio and is facing felony child pornography charges after taking a nude photo of herself and sending it to her friends. She is said to have taken the photos after a county prosecutor gave a lecture at her school, Licking Valley High, about taking nude photos of minors. According to Ohio law, parents or guardians may take or possess nude photos of their kids under certain circumstances, but there is no such exemption for minors taking photos of themselves. If convicted, the girl may be forced to register as a sex offender with the state. [Newark Advocate & WBNS]

According to a report released by Optent, an IT security and filter company, the number of pro-ana and pro-bulimia websites increased by 470% between 2006 and 2007. The report, which sampled about 3 million random websites, also found that violent content increased by 125%, racist websites increased by 70%, and child pornography websites increased by 18%. The increase in this type of content could be related to the 455% increase in "personal websites" (20,889 in 2007 vs. 3,763 in 2006) recorded in the report, on which a lot of pro-ana material appears. 33-year-old Kelly Lumadue was just sentenced to life without parole for having sex with a five-year-old boy. The Sanford, Florida woman claims she was forced to perform the acts by her husband, a professional pornographer who made the explicit tapes that fueled her conviction. (The tapes were later found by a garbage collector after Lumadue threw them away.) Her husband has since died and is, one presumes, in hell. [Orlando Sentinel]
