In this no-shit study, they found that while men have historically been the superior chess players, this can be explained by the simple fact that more men play chess. According to Scientific American, although “those who wish to argue that women are just not as smart as men often point to chess as their proof” (they do?), the only reason a woman has never been the chess world champion is that not enough women are currently competing.
