This makes me very happy, especially since the president of my post-secondary institution doesn't believe women can be CEOs: [www.edmontonjournal.com]
While some observers suggest the shift is no big deal, others say they are worried about what U of A president Indira Samarasekera calls a "demographic bomb" working its way through the system. The problem is no one seems entirely sure what to do about it.
"The presidents of the major universities are very concerned we are not attracting young men in the numbers we should," Samarasekera says.
"I got asked recently about special programs to get more women CEOs, and my response was let’s not worry about that because that will come in due course. The bigger worry is that we’ll wake up in 20 years and we will not have the benefit of enough male talent at the heads of companies and elsewhere." #indranooyi
I thought that women wanted to be viewed as aspiring actresses, married, sorority sisters, womens' studies majors, or any of the 24 types in the Amp app.... and I don't think executive was one of those types. #indranooyi
@Ipomoea: Look at it this way ... if you're an executive, then you're safe from one of those types hitting on you, since they don't have an Amp script to work with.

But if roughly 70% of what she's speaking about has to do with women's issues, doesn't that mean that 100% of what a man speaks about would be on the topic with the same talking points for the same length of discussion? Or does the gap not work that way....? #indranooyi
I'm at work, so I can't watch the video, but I read this as 70% of the times she's brought in as a speaker, she's being asked to speak about being A Woman In Business, whereas a man would be asked to speak about...business.
@theKP: Inquiring minds want to know. If they made an app for tips for young professional women, like how to ask for a raise, I'd totally buy some Pepsi. #indranooyi
Martyr who insists on full glory here. Honestly, I'm not above asking for help, but as it's mostly family members that are available, it's always more trouble than it's worth to have them in the kitchen (I'm looking at you, Mom), so I do as much as I can before Thursday, and then start at 8 a.m. or so with the turkey and anything that can't be pre-made. It turns out well, and I just enjoy being able to do something nice for everyone.
I am a SHIRKER with a capital S. I don't even help clean up. I figure if someone's putting together a meal, s/he loves to cook and entertain so why deprive them. I don't cook so I would never host a meal. See the logic?
I also don't clean because it's someone else's kitchen and I hate it when I don't know where everything goes.
Every now and then someone tries to make me do something and it's weird. They think I'm a normal person who likes to cook or do domestic things. I manage to palm it off on someone else.
Oh, I'm a slaver.. and I love every minute of it. I don't get resentful. I am completely at peace and comforted cooking Thanksgiving dinner, or even just helping.
I used to be a slaver- my mom would wake me at the crack of dawn to help, and I would peel potatoes, make pies, stuffing, baste the turkey, etc. Really, some of the best memories I have of growing up. My mom and I would wear her awesome 70s/80s aprons too.
Now I am a shirker, because I live 3000 miles away. My boyfriend's mother doesn't even bake pies! (They are Costco) Also, she (and his other Italian female relatives) are really critical of my cooking, so I'm just showing up. Screw them. Also, my boyfriend never helps or is expected to help. He had never even been grocery shopping until I moved out of the dorms and took him along. He is like KING shirker.
One day I will take over Thanksgiving and make my children slave with me in the kitchen. I'm kinda already the nazi of my family back East's holiday party, with my mom stepping into backup position and me being how she used to be when I was a kid. If anyone knows any great Victorian themed recipes that are suitable for vegetarians (or not) let me know!
I don't eat turkey but I spent the better part of today making a cake and a pumpkin baked ziti dish to take to my parents' house tomorrow and I feel like I ran a marathon.
My mom slaves... and she loves it. My dad gets served and he loves it. My sis (and her family) dine and dash.. and she loves it. And I clean.
I hate cleaning.
But this year, I'm doing almost all the cooking, because I've found I kinda enjoy it and my pops is getting out of the hospital prematurely because he's as stubborn as a mule, so my mom will be spending the holiday at his beck and call (more than usual). My sis may be spending the time with her new hubby's family (as she should), so it's just Mom, Dad and me.
Hey, any LA folk that are TG Orphans, feel free to drop by for a plate of good home cookin'.

I just checked and the only legal job in the entire multinational company is in Egypt and requires fluency in Arabic. Damn it. #indranooyi
