My older sister tried to get married on my younger sister's Birthday. Both my younger sister and I were annoyed. Luckily it fell through because it happened to be on a Sunday that year. Maybe these sisters get along better than my family.

I'm staying far away from this sort of thing. My parents got married on Aug. 13? Nope, can't do that. Or any 13th of any month. Mostly because yes, they had a bad marriage and divorced. I do find it funny that it was the 13th, though. Not even a Saturday. More like a Wednesday, I think.

12 children? Wow. I wonder if they're religious; in certain groups there's a lot of pressure to get married early. 20 is really young, I think.

@Kate2.18: If they're from rural MO (ie, anything other than StL or KC) it's pretty common to get married fairly young. Half of my high school class is married or has kids already, and I haven't graduated college.

@LadyFabulous: At first I was horrified by that too, because, hello, girls are not property. But then maybe, just maybe, he meant it's tough to disconnect from his daughters so abruptly, because if they are only 18-20, they've probably still lived at home or just barely moved out, so changing the relationship is like when kids move away for the first time, but even moreso, and he just was too emotional to articulate that. (at least that's what I hope)

At least (from what I see in this article) the dad doesn't give the new husband the new wife's purity ring in the middle of the wedding ceremony- essentially giving a public notification that it is ok now to have sex with her. Eh, my neighbor's wedding ceremony. Creepy.
