    RE: Ciara/KEE-RA, I have a friend named Amaliya, who pronounced it like Ah-mall-yuh. One day as an adult her mom gave her the baby book she used to find her name, complete with pronunciation guide, and realized it should be pronounced Ah-mah-lee-uh. Whoops!

    Well, being Irish myself, I can safely say that Kee-rah is the correct pronounciation. I had never heard of the See-er-ah pronounciation until I had heard her sing on the radio. Ciara is the Irish female equivalent of Ciarán which is Irish for Kieran. The anglicised version is Kiera/Keira/Kira like Ms. Knightley, for instance.

    kardashian's makeup bothers me. either do a bright lip or a heavy eye but not both.

    katee sackhoff is almost unrecognizable...and i don't mean that she looks terrible or that i wouldn't recognize her with short hair, but she strongly resembles leslie mann in that photo.

    I am delighted by Isabelle Fuhrman's adorable and age-appropriate ensemble and her bright, enthusiastic smile. She looks like she's having a blast!

    Also, regarding the see-ARR-ah/KEE-rah issue, I would assume that KEE-rah is the correct Celtic pronunciation and see-ARR-ah is an American bastardization. Kind of like how Sean is pronounced sh-AWN and Siobhan is shuh-VAWN.

    @Zombie Ms. Skittles: My middle name is Ceara and my parents always said it was pronounced SEER-A. Then I made an Irish friend who told me it was more like KEER-A.

    I went through a period of saying it KEER-A and now I just don't know what my name is.

    @Zombie Ms. Skittles: I suspect the famous Ciara might be named after the very strong, weirdly intoxicating perfume, and not after Celtic tradition. That stuff was everywhere in the 70s and 80s.
