Love Maya Angelou, but she supported Hillary Clinton over Barack Obama, so I cannot help but find her emotionalism, though genuine, still very late. If she felt so strongly about an African-American President, given her penchant for expression, that certainly should have come out in her choice, but it didn't until it was only a choice between Obama and McCain.

@noasalira: Maya could have legitimately preferred Hillary on policy grounds (or personal friendship) and still be proud that Obama won.

i'm laughing at harry smith's body language with his hands over his mouth leaning back in the chair and legs crossed asking "why. this. MAN.". it was almost bryant gumbel-like. it's ripe for an snl skit.

but aside from that, dr. angelou rocks.

I'm too happy to cry, but I did get goosebumps because not only is Maya Angelou a most wonderful and wise woman, I have the words "still I rise" tattooed on my back as a reminder during the bad times that I can fight back and that I cannot be brought down by anyone.

Y'all, I hadn't read Gawker since early yesterday and I just saw all the posts saying "Barack Obama is your 44th President" and got all teary again and then I come over here and all I had to do was look at this screenshot and I started crying AGAIN and FOR THE LOVE my waterproof eye makeup CANNOT TAKE THIS.

I want to hug America today.

I got to hear Maya Angelou speak when I was 13 and it was an experience I will never, ever forget. She has so much poise, wisdom, and grace. And she patted my head when she greeted the audience after she spoke, which has always made me feel special.

I saw her speak at a Horizons for the Homeless breakfast, here in Boston. I can't even begin to tell you how much her speech moved me. She is so amazing that it's hard to actually put it into words. You just have to see and hear her in person to understand the power of her words and presence.

@rollergirl76: I was lucky enough to see her speak at my alma mater. The acoustics were so bad that I could barely make out what she was saying, but the sheer power of her voice..

I'm only just starting to wake up from my giddy excitement, and realizing that my reproductive rights will be safe for at least the next four years (and longer, if Obama does the job I think he will), not to mention that we have already gained a ton of respect from the outside world by doing an extraordinary thing last night.

I am so deeply, purely happy today. It's an awesome thing.
