Erin Featherston's look is gorgeous!! But I can't get behind so many of the women with long straggly hair and droopy looking bustlines. I can haz support, pleez? And a hairbrush?
There is nothing more fun than dressing up and dancing the night away. If you can't dance like crazy at the Ballet function, then you shouldn't even go.
Julia Koch looks like the world's most ferocious fruit roll-up.
I don't understand in which universe Natalie Portman's dress qualifies as "perfection." I'm pretty sure that length isn't flaterring on anyone. And the shoes look completely out of place. Meh.
@BetteD: At first, I thought that perhaps she's doing some kind of meta reference to sparkly glam by wearing a starry sky print. But even if that's the case, she's conspicuously underdressed. To me, her dress says, "I'm so above my company (and everyone ever) that I can wear a sundress in the winter to the damn NYC Ballet."
@jigglyball: I know I will probably get hateraded on for this, but N. Port always seems to have an air of being above her company. I've always found her to seem a little in love with herself. And y'know, child rapists and whatnot...
@BetteD: Nah, I think there's actually some NPort haterade making the rounds, and I guess I been drinkin' it. I'm fairly certain we're not alone in our opinions.
@BetteD: Oh oh I'm on that train. I used to quite like her, but since she's ok with child rape, and compared eating a steak to rape, she's off my list. See ya, Portman, you pretty wooden doll.
@jigglyball: @BetteD I agree with both of you. I think the print of her dress looks like material you would get at Joann's fabrics for the purpose of costuming Merlin in a 5th grade school play. Also, I feel like she's one of those Harvard grads who would somehow work their alma mater into every 3rd or 4th sentence when talking to you at a cocktail party. Oh yeah, and being an apologist for a child rapist and equating eating meat to being a rapist (WTF?!) doesn't really boost my opinion of her either.
@lisas: Kiiiinda sick and tired of everyone saying Natalie compared eating steak to rape when if you actually read the article, you'd realize that she didn't do anything of the sort. Next!
@jigglyball: I thought it looked like a sundress too! A pretty sundress, but not appropriate for the NY Ballet in late November. I'm not a fan of hers as an actor, but she usually dresses very well at least.
I was once at a black tie event where Alexandra Lebenthal wore an enormous red satin caftan cape thing (think something Andre Leon Tally would die for) and sliver cigarette pants. She looked amazing. That woman can wear anything.
@lafleur: I think it is hers because you can see some white "shirt sleeve" poking out of it, even though you don't see the rest of a white shirt. A man's regular jacket wouldn't have a thing like that on it.
Natalie Portman's dress makes me want to fall asleep. It should be shorter, with younger shoes. A teen print + mom length = Lindsay Lohan Jamie Lee Curtis mashup
I don't really care for Natalie Portman's outfit, to be honest. There is something about the tailoring that renders it frumpy, to me, the length is unflattering to someone her height, and the shoes are boring.
@Tchotchke: I'm with you. Aside from the stumpifying length, the bodice is just unflattering. The pattern isn't doing anything for me, either. It looks like a twin-sized sheet set bought special for Science Camp.
@Ailatan: I would add that the straps and bust are too low also. I'm 5'3" and any dress that hangs that low creates an effect that draws the viewers' eyes downward, thereby making you appear shorter and dumpy. If you're petite, you want clothing that plays up that factor and makes you look lithe, not stumpy.
@Tchotchke: I just don't like blue and black together, no many how many magazine editors try to convince me it's a "daring" combination. It just always looks like a mistake to me.
@Leucadia: It really depends on the shade of blue, in my opinion. For example, a saphire dress with a black belt would be beautiful. But, if the shades are too close, it makes it hard to discern between them and it looks sloppy, in my opinion.
@yvanehtnioj: I agree. I WANT to like it, but the makeup pushed it over for me. If she had kept the tones more neutral instead of the brights she did, it would have toned down the look. And yes, the pose--too cheeky!
Graceful men, lift lovely girls, in whiiiiite. Yes, everything is beautiful at the balle---et, I look pretty, I was happy, I would love to at the ballet.

Also it looks too much like a simple cotton dress, I don't know what the material is but it doesn't photograph very well.

But the bottom? Yeesh. Needs to be shorter, more flattering line, and lighter shoes.
She's beautiful no matter what, but this is not a flattering look for her.
