Lorraine Candy is also the editor of Elle in the UK, much to the mystification of most people in the magazine and fashion industries there. But I guess that's just because they're jealous, right Lorraine?
Man, this is something that all people, women and men, need to get over. Every time a woman criticizes another woman does NOT MEAN IT IS TOXIC SISTERHOOD. I can be just as toxic to my brothers as I can be to my sisters. When men are assholes to each other, it's just normal, but when women do it it's "oh, the ladies are being unladylike". Bah.
Hmph. John McCain is as mean as a rattlesnake, and nobody talks about the "toxic brotherhood". Why are boys dissing each other all the time on talk radio and editorials? Can't they all just get alonng?
Palin isn't toxic because she's a woman. She's toxic because she has a tenuous grasp on reality, is narcissistic, has a Manichean view of the world and lacks empathy. It's not her vagina that's making her act this way, it's a personality that is also evident in plenty of men too. Glenn Beck, Bill O'Reilly, Sean Hannity, Newt Gingrich, Dick Cheney...no one laments when people call them out on their behavior. She's just doing what men have been doing for decades to get back at their enemies.
So why do we feel it necessary to make it a "women are so meeean" argument? She's a person. Some people are just mean.
The "women are mean" stereotypes are ridiculous. Women aren't any meaner than men, we're just expected to be nicer. For instance, if my male coworker gossips or whines about someone, that's fine. If I do, I'm catty and bitchy, or, my favourite, PMSing.

This is hilarious. If I ever have kids I hope they insult each other like this. I laughed for like a minute after I read it.
