Since I live in a la-la land of thinking nothing has a hidden agenda, I choose to see the above as innocent. Like, if you order a fosters or Jaegershots on a date, she's going to think you're a frat boy. But if you order a Heineken, she'll think you're refined.

I have a weird relationship with this concept. I drink pretty regularly at parties- always with friends, never to blackout, always pretty safely, etc. And every once in a while I bitch to my friends that I'm tired of not having a boy in my life, and that I just want to get drunk and make out with some boy at the next party we go to. Just make out with someone, nothing more.

And I never do. Even when I'm drunk, my inhibitions about that are too high. I'm not sure why.

Lately i have been drinking more just to ease the stress in my life. The good thing is sex while tipsy is the best kind. Im not crazy about my body so a few drinks helps me forget my inhibitions.

I have been allergic to alcohol since 14, so (1) no liquid courage for this shy gal & (2) no liquid excuses. When I tell men this in a dating situation, they usually look disappointed.

@lunanoire: Augh. I hate that reaction, but I get it too. I'm allergic too, and realized it almost 2 years ago. It's amazing how many social situations tend to begin with "let's grab a drink"...but fortunately diet coke exists :D

I realized that 200 comments ago I didn't complete my point, which wasn't that the women were divided into Girls Gone Wild vs. Anti Girls Gone Wild camps, to which anyone here would say, "Well, of course, idiot!" But that most people I've encountered IRL are very adamant that the phony Girls Gone Wild version of sexual liberation belongs on the tv and only the tv and advocate more or less traditional values and will insist that underneath it all, you do, too, despite any and all evidence to the contrary.

But like I said, that could be more about where I'm from.

This is actually what I am writing my master's thesis on!!!! I am proposing the idea that women who engage in greater levels of self-objectification (which includes sexual self-consciousness) are more likely to also engaged in "risky sexual behavior", which includes drinking/taking drugs prior to sexual activities.

I believe that women who experience a lot of anxiety about their sexuality and their physical appearence are often trying to lower those anxieties with alcohol.

@SisterMaryMartha: No, I don't. And I don't think every woman does. Jessica said many women do, which I think is probably true. However, my solution would not be to get drunk on an individual level but to destroy sexual double standards and slut-shaming on a societal level.
Guess it's easier and quicker to get drunk while we're waiting.

Apparently, Austin is one of the booziest cities in the U.S. and living here, I definitely believe it. After two drinks, though, I just start getting tired so personally, I don't drink much where I would want to use it as a "social lubricant". However, get me a bottle of wine and my SO in my apartment and it's going to be a fun night for all involved!

A side note:I didn't take the Heineken ad to be an invitation to drunken and debauched sex (as fun as that may be) but more tongue-in-cheek observation of the reasons why some people drink

A few drinks do lower my exceptionably high standards, which is good, otherwise I would never have sex.

It's like this Dorothy Parker inspired poem:

Although the thought: what was I thinking (drinking!) has occurred more than once after one of those escapades.
