    She's been doing a great job and she's definitely an asset to Sarkozy, but I don't think their romance is the great love story it's made out to be, and she strikes me as quite insecure in this relationship. I do think she's crazy about him, but I don't think he's an easy person to be with. Cecilia was the love of his life, and that's gonna cast a shadow over him for a loooong time.


    I think I've taken the Debbie Downer mantle over today...

    I never had a problem with Laura Bush (she always seemed very sweet and smart, like in a my friend's mom kind of way), but I'm very excited to have a new First Lady who is freaking cool on the level of Carla Bruni.

    @morninggloria: Me either. Laura has always seemed secretly fun to hang around with, but Mish and Jill look just awesome!

    Meanwhile, my country's new Prime Minister's wife is called Bronagh, and nobody knows much about her because she's really private. At least with the last PM, we knew that her husband was a sociology lecturer and into tramping!

    I saw her Matt Lauer interview this morning and she is, I dare say, "practically perfect in every way." She just seems very nice, gracious and genuine.

    I wish I could pull that voice off. If I attempted to make my voice sound as breathy, I'd probably get rushed to the hospital by people fearing that I was suffering from an asthma attack or a possession by the ghost of Salazar Slytherin.

    @hortense: Carla obviously didn't grow up with my grandfather. Any time one of us girls (there are five of us cousins) spoke in what could be considered a voice that was breathy or girlish, he would verbally abuse us into speaking plainly and firmly while enunciating beautifully.

    @hortense: Strangely enough, a voice that husky and breathless does not beautify one's Kiwi accent. And trust me, I've tried! I love her voice; I listened to her first album nonstop throughout my last year of high school.
