A few of my friends thought they were witches after they saw the Craft, that was pretty obnoxious. But if the movie come on today I would probably watch it. Anyone but me ever see Foxfire?
I went through a period of being obsessed with Encino Man. Brendan Fraser was adorable and Sean Astin was awesome, as always. I was happy it got a shout-out on Daisy of Love when Daisy named that creepy guy from New Jersey "Weasel". It's a fitting name as he spent most of the episode "weezing the juice".
And I don't know if it's a "teen movie" per se, but I loved New Waterford Girl.
Ahhhh I LOVE "Can't Hardly Wait." I never want that movie to end when I watch it. I also loved "Jawbreaker." It was an early version of "Mean Girls," but much more bitchy and mean.
also, REALITY BITES. perhaps it doesn't count because it is technically a post-college movie, but i definitely watched it so many times when i was in high school.
Oh man, The Craft. I have such a love/hate relationship with that movie. On one hand it's so spectacularly cheesy and awesome, I will unabashedly watch it every time it's on and defend its trashy fun to other Pagans who hate it. OTOH, as an actual teenage gothlet whose interest in Wicca predated the film, it made my life absolutely miserable for a good couple of years. All you ladies that were faux-Wiccans for three weeks? Harassed the crap out of me wanting to know "how to do stuff like in the movie" and if I could teach them to summon Mano and shit. Especially since I was working at a very well known local occult shop when it came out.
I did have fun making up complete bullshit and convincing y'all it was real, though. Ah, high school.
I. ADORE. Can't Hardly Wait. I think it was much smarter than other teen films in the 90s (and lord knows I've seen all of them) and WAY funnier. Clarissa was in that one too, remember? The one who wanted her yearbook signed!
Highlights for me were definitely Jenna Elfman's angel stripper that had a thing for Scott Baio; Seth Green's Special K; Peter Facinelli (fuck Twilight, he'll always be the burping jock to me); Charlie Korsmo as the nerd who jumps onto stage/crowd surfs to Paradise City - data point, I can no longer hear that song without thinking of that scene - whilst his nerdy brethren wait on the roof outside making pew-pew with X-Files (!) figurines; inclusion of Only You during the end scene when Ethan Embry finally gets the girl.
I fucking love that movie and I'll cut a bitch who doesn't agree.
@meritxell: Oh and I forgot the scene where Ethan Embry finally gets up the balls to talk to Amanda Love Hewitt because he hears Mandy on the radio, and Jenna Elfman is all like "dude, Barry Manilow wrote that song about his DOG."
But definitely Special K for me. I've been known to drop a "Yo, I GOTS to have sex tonight!" from time to time. I looooooooove Seth Green.
I don't suppose American Beauty counts as a "teen" movie, but I loved Thora Birch in it. She was so torn between wanting to be "ordinary" and wanting to be the way Ricky saw her--extraordinary, I guess. At least it fits one qualification of this list 'cause it came out in 1999.
Another Thora Birch film I love, Ghost World, was actually early 2001, so that doesn't make the cut.
That said, whatever happened to Thora Birch, anyway?
Now and Then? Is that A-list? I'm pretty sure it defined my childhood.
Also, we totally paused it, trying to see Devon Sawa's balls. We thought we could, but you know, I'm pretty sure they wouldn't have had him be actually naked. Child porn and all.
What about Dazed And Confused? It came out in 1993, but how can you deny the allure of Matthew McConaughey's character's famous line: "That's what I love about these high school girls, man. I get older, they stay the same age."
I now love Can't Hardly Wait, but it came out right as I was graduating from high school, and it seemed pointless to watch all these stereotypical kids doing the same dumb shit I was doing every weekend. Plus, the group of guys I was running around with were sadly similar to Seth Green and his posse of idiots. They make me all nostalgic for bad rap and midnight 7-Eleven runs.
