I call shenanigans on their stuff being affordable... that's WAY too much to pay for slippers, no matter how cozy - and no dog I know needs his/her own damn bag. They don't have freakin thumbs!

My mom made me back up the Tivo over the weekend to watch this commercial, she loves LL Bean so much. I then reminded her the fact that they are advertising now probably means their prices will go up a little. That shut her up.

Wow. I thought these tactics were common knowledge.

But if they did do things like this, commercials would cost way more to shoot. And then we'd complain about how much money Hollywood wastes to sell us things we don't need when people are facing foreclosure.

Oh wait, we do that anyway.

I'll blame this on my upbringing, but 30 bucks for a dog present and 50 bucks for some slippers does not seem reasonable to me.

I don't care where or when this commercial was shot and yes LL Bean has fantastically wonderful products, but I am not, nor cannot, pay $30 for a dog gift or $50 for slippers. Reasonable priced gifts? Not for my budget!

The worst TV offenders, IMO: Dukes of Hazard and Little House on the Prairie were both filmed in California, which is pretty obvious to anyone who's been to Kansas or Georgia(?). Neither looks like arid scrub land.

@The Name's Ash78, Housewares: There are some bad ones right now. Almost any show that claims to be set on the East Coast but uses LA exteriors looks ridiculus. The vegetation just isn't the same. We don't have eculyptus trees for a start.

On a side note, this made me rather homesick. I live in SoCal now, and we(the boyfriends family and I) went to get our Xmas tree tonight. I was wearing flipflops. LL Bean (The big Maine store) was a summer stop every year for my family. And half of my dad's wardrobe is LL Bean. This is also a man who owns and proudly sports an (at least) 25 year old "Maine is Wicked Good" teeshirt. 18 more days until I'm back in my snowy homeland!!!

As long as the commercial represents the actual products, it's fair game. Those ice cream ads have to show the real ice cream, but Hershey's syrup ads can use shortening for the ice cream (which is what they do).

TVs and cameras usually have "screen shots simulated" because they don't photograph well.

@The Name's Ash78, Housewares: People also use mashed potatoes! And I'm not sure ice cream companies use ice cream in their ads .. I feel like the ice cream would all melt under the hot lighting.

@insomniacmeg: I LOVE Maine. One of my Californian friends moved to a small island called Vinalhaven and married a lobsterman. I don't know how she has adapted to that weather, though. I only venture that way in the summer months.
