It's been forever since I had one, it feels like, but as a child, I skinned all my peeps, eating their yellow sugar crunch first, then marshallow stickiness last. Actually, I "skin" a lot of my food- still eat the chocolate off a Snickers before eating the rest, and the fried batter off a McNugget before the actual chicken. Hmm . . . I wonder if that means anything about me?
This just reminds me of that Malcolm In The Middle episode, where Francis eats 100 Peeps. And that parting shot of hot pink ooze bubbling out of his mouth. Sigh.
I can't eat them anymore. It's like you're happily cannibalizing a tiny, pastel-colored, helpless victim even as he fixes his chocolate-brown eyes on you and silently begs for mercy. Plus I saw that website where they photographed various methods of Peep-icide and now when I pass them in the store I look away out of guilt.
@Aesop's Foibles. YES.: The fact that they are so adorable is what makes them so satisfying to eat viciously. I equate butchering them with dressing my dog up as a lobster for Halloween or forgetting to hide my stuffed animals under the bed when I masturbate.
@MediasBlue: I actually buy peeps, cut the plastic, and then let them sit in the cupboard for days. They are the best when they're stale and a bit crunchy.
@cowboy killer: Exactly! Place 2 Peeps in a microwave a few inches apart (best to do it on a plate, preferably one you can just throw away). Stick toothpicks in them so that they are pointing them at each other. Microwave them for a bit. They will expand in size. Whichever Peep stabs the other one first is the victor.
@cate3710: Ha! I was only half-serious, but am so pleased that peep jousting actually is what I thought it was. I wonder who fares better, bunnies or chicks?
@cowboy killer: I think I've only jousted with chicks before. I imagine bunnies are at a disadvantage because they don't have as large of a base are are more likely to fall over.
I went to this yesterday, the people who set it up did an amazing job. It was perfect. There were even people dressed up as all the characters. Not to mention, the kids were so cute and excited!
