    I'm sure this term will come my way someday. My husband is six years younger than I am and we've been together since he was 19 (he asked me out). He will be 27 this fall.

    We have gotten a few negative comments about it, mostly during the first year from relatives who came around quickly, but only one name-calling so far, a girl in my grad school class who called me "sick."

    But then, I secretly called her Psycho Hose Beast so I guess we're even.

    Just yesterday, my boyfriend (while discussing an ad for "Cougar Town") said S&TC "caused" the whole cougar thing by showing older women being sexually predatory. I was like, "No, honey. They were not in their 20's, and they liked to have sex. That doesn't make them predatory. That makes them human."

    The whole "cougar" thing has gotten out of control. Now no woman can have a relationship with anyone more then three years outside of her age range without being a "gold digger" or a "cougar." Sickening.

    I hate the term Cougar and MILF. Both imply that women over the age of 30 are naturally repugnant. Therefore when a woman is you know,"hot" for her age the menz must let her know.

    @nyc-caribbean-ragazza: People use MILF, a term I object to because it assumes women are only prized IF they have had children. Cougar has not caught on, probably because many people would not know what a cougar (as in animal) is or looks like. Toyboy is still the favourite term to describe a woman who dates a man more than a year or so younger than herself. Implicit in all those terms is that they are derogatory to both the woman AND the man in the relationship.

    The Viper: A lesbian.

    The Glitter Unicorn: A Jezebel.

    The thing that I hate about the term cougar is that people (aka my male friends) have taken the term and run amok with it! It used to mean an older woman who went for younger guys for sexual conquest. Now all my friends use it to discribe ANY hot older woman! Regardless of whether or not she is "on the prowl".

    What does it say about me that it's not the fact that the term is derogatory, but that it's missused, that bothers me??

    MILF bothers me for the same reason. Well, MILF bothers me for lots of reasons, but the fact that it's used generally to apply to any and all attractive older women--even if she's just a couple years older than the guy who's calling her a MILF--is irritating. Aren't MILFs supposed to be mothers?

    If I understand this trend properly, I think Ms. Bushnell is correct. Now that she is 50, she is no longer a "cougar" but a "saber-tooth tiger". That's according to Courtney Cox, I believe.
