I thought Anna Wintour usually didn't attend London fashion week... Seems odd that she's now praising its spirit and whatnot.

Wow. That photo=a reminder that event though plus-sized models aren't the normal beauty standard, they are still SO genetically blessed (and thus, models, duh).

@midwestdesigner: I'm not really sure that that high fashion models = the beauty standard. This woman is still a fairly thin, large-chested blond -- pretty close to the standard, I would think. But yes, she's gorgeous.

Look designer peeps and hangers-on, you have to let us fatties be a part of this thing called "fash-un" or we will WALK AROUND NAKED! And that's a promise not a threat.

YEESH! That outfit is awful on that poor girl. "Let's get a 'plus-size' girl and put her in the least flattering thing we can find! That will show them!" Le sigh.

@rodmanstreet: The outfit is fine. It's just a couple of sizes too small for her. That's what happens when you shove a size 8-10 model into a size 2 dress. They should have gotten an appropriately sized dress for her.

@Evie Havok: Good call. The problem isn't the model's figure -- the problem is the dress.
    Yes, I'm a fashion heretic.

(I feel disloyal, too, since the man is at least trying to show on different sizes of women. Elena MirĂ³ has been doing it for years -- someone on his team couldn't get a clue from her?)

When they say "supportive underwear" do they mean something like spanx, or do they mean a bra? I don't really see what's wrong with latter. I'm generally uncomfortable when I'm bra less, so maybe that issue was taken into consideration for the curvier models? But then again, this is the fashion industry. I'm probably just being naive.

EDIT: Oh wait, I think I read that incorrectly, are they saying somebody threw a fit because someone thought it'd be more comfortable for the models to have "supportive underwear?" (Sorry, I'm obviously a little confused)

@Jeenzy: It appears that the stylist who stepped in shoved all the tiny girls underwears on the 'plus' girls which made them look a bit lumpy and may or may not have cut them! Yikes.

So, the presence of some average-sized women who needed to wear actual underwear with the dresses caused a complete meltdown? Further proof that high fashion is more of an abstract concept than an industry dedicated to actually making clothes for people to wear.

Gisele--you are a lovely, vibrant, pregnant celebrity married to a football star. This ALONE ups your chances of a tragic end, but you’re going to throw HELICOPTER PILOT in there? You’d think you’ve never seen an episode of E! True Hollywood Story!

A part of me can't help but feel angry at what will certainly be the impending overuse of Narcissism. Like Depression, Narcissism is a clinical disorder, and using the phrase to describe selfishness/ entitlement/ esteem issues kind of irks me.

Now that I've finished that, I'll go back to looking in the mirror.

@pandorasmittens: Good point. True narcissism, usually diagnosed as pathological narcissisim disorder (PND) manifests as an extreme personality disorder, not just an odious personality (i.e. Paris Hilton et al).

My mother suffers from PND. She lives on a different reality plane where her actions and decisons carry no consequence and no other (lesser) mortal's existence matters. No working conscience, no moral code, no "soul". Rarely do PND sufferers recognize their own need for therapy or treatment. Living with them is a terrifying and deeply troubling experience.

It would be nice if that darn old media would separate narcissistic tendencies with the true disorder.

That said, I see many similarities between my PND mother and the Octomom. Detached from reality? Unconcerned with consequences? Self-obsessed? Intolerant of criticism and unmoved by the suffering of others? Just sayin'

@TroubleonWheels: be careful how you throw diagnostic tools around. PND is not actually a true disorder, but entitlement and self-obsession sums up NPD exceptionally well, and NPD IS a true disorder, petty well. Paris Hilton is the poster child for NPD.

what you are describing as "PND" sounds like Cluster B spectrum, which is just the four disorders on the cluster B axis in varying levels. and yeah your mom sounds like she has other disorders, specifically antisocial personality disorder. lack of remorse, "unmoved by the suffering of others" and "no soul" are big red flags for APD.

@pandorasmittens: entitlement is actually a red flag symptom of narcissic personality disorder. it depends on additional factors whether it rises to the level of a personality disorder diagnosis, true.
