Even Republicans Think Dick Cheney Should STFU
Sarah Palin: If She's Not Ready To Debate, Can She Be Ready To Lead?

03/24/09
"Republicans wish Dick Cheney would stop saying that Barack Obama will cause a terrorist attack, too, because he's making them all look like racist fear-mongers. Oh, wait."
I hate Dick Cheney. And I'm not a racist fear-monger.
Jezebel can do better than that.

Anyway. Go Teddy!

I really hope Ted Kennedy makes it.
03/24/09
At any rate, as I said: Go Teddy! We'll be a poorer country when we lose him.
03/24/09
Or at least close enough that some of the grown-ups in the Republican Party (oh, you can't fool me, there are a few, here and there) could tell her to STeverlovingFU because she is sworn to uphold the US Constitution and suggesting an overthrow of the duly-elected government IS NOT THAT!!

Why do insist on electing Michelle Bachmann? The woman is insane. One minute she wants to create Congressional hearings to find out who is unAmerican among her ranks, and then she is encouraging people to overthrow the government by force, the next. She advertises her barely teenage daughter's measurements to everybody on her christmas card list. She's got the crazy eyes. Do I really need to go on?
Seriously Minnesota, you are now officially on notice. Don't make me come over there. I know where you live.
Yours truly,
Sputnik

Um, Michelle, you guys had the chance to do that in November. And you failed. Move along.
Also, I seem to remember being called a terrorist and a traitor when I peacefully protested against my government starting an unjust war. How exactly is actually taking up arms any different? I thought we lived in a democracy. A significant majority supported Obama in November and according to recent polls, still supports him.
Do us all a favor and go back and read the Constitution. You might learn something.

I was living in NYC on 9/11. The first plane flew over my head and I watched it crash into the towers. What I saw versus what I was told was going on, TO THIS DAY, will never reconcile.
and ps, why should we trust ANYTHING the Bush clan told us. Or, in fact, ANY admin/government just TELLS us.
(I don't mean to sound so wackadoo...)

We're never going to know the truth, though, will we?

While I am no longer shocked, angered, or even surprised that the financial sector is so FUCKED UP, I think it's been both a blessing and a shitstorm that Obama & crew have to clean this up.
I am beginning to think it's impossible. Trying to undo YEARS of corrupt, questionable, and well, obviously, 'business-as-usual' workings appears, TO ME, to be hopeless.
Obama gave me hope, but these dickweeds have sucked it out of me.

03/24/09
I hope she's right.

I am a pessimist, to say the least. I still get a (albeit, good) pit in my stomach when I hear the words, 'President' and 'Obama' in the same sentence. Our country VOTED, yes VOTED, for, TWICE, for Bush & his cronies. We allow people like Michelle Bachman to remain in office.
I remain cynical that citizens actually WANT to rise up and change things. On the other hand, I guess fucking with people's money is a deal-breaker. We can hate on the everyone, blow up other countries, but take our cash? Well, NOW we're angry.
I don't like sounding so disparaging, but does anyone get my drift?

@rosasparks is entertained by bobby jindal: You know what, I really hate to say it, but I'm with you on the hope-being-sucked-out thing. I don't know if it's the asshats, the enormity of the disaster(s), or the fact that Obama himself is proving to be as human as we always knew he would be (I'm still getting over Judd Gregg, for instance), but yes -- I am, let's just say, rather less giddy than I was from Nov 5-Feb 1.
But, also, yes: The words "President Obama" still give me a little thrill, and I said so to my husband just last night. Which is a fair bit better than fear and loathing, I suppose!

One day, last fall, we were working balls to the wall on the case, during the Big 3 testimonies on the Hill. I look at my boss, and I say, 'I wish they would just let them die. They were too slow to the game and just let them die.'
She looked at me and said, 'NO! Every single person building cars, building the parts FOR the cars, creating the carpeting for the cars...(she goes on and on) They deserve to keep their jobs. It is far more effective to hold them to a statute and a platform to do BETTER. Letting them die solves nothing. It only crushes the economy further.'
Life lesson #4,569 from rosasparks' boss lady.

It is not uncommon (and not pretty) for this kind of thing to happen every so often in human history. Sometimes progress requires a tectonic shift. We have been living with an ungovernable financial system for some time, and the remnants of the robber baron system need to be swept away, to be replaced with an economy that can support people and give equal and free access to wealth to everyone, not to just the privileged few.
I don't want to see people suffer, but people are suffering now, and to my way of thinking, just as much. If we are going to ask the American people to suffer, let it be for the betterment of all, than to fuel the greed of a few.

It's not that I want to see people homeless, destitute, etc. It's that every time this happens, the situation gets worse. If it's this bad now, what will it be like in 25 years, when it happens all over again? I would rather the Federal Government did as it did during the Great Depression, and used its power for the general citizenry, putting people to work any way it can and making sure all the social safety nets are sturdy. The idea that my daughter's future is being mortgaged even more heavily for the convenience of Wall Street, so they can just do this again in 25 years, pains me to no end.
03/24/09
Prop up the car companies, and then make sure the word gets out that these cars are still some of the finest cars in the world.
03/24/09
If they were held to the basic standards of efficiency, as well as technological advancement, they would FAIL. Miserably, in fact. The fact is, they REFUSE to leave the old ways behind. However...
My point lies with just letting things die doesn't solve shit. Especially when the average person, the one who actually is the foundation for Industry X, is sent to pasture.
You're missing my point. Auto manufacturers, banks, whatever the fuck; just letting them die doesn't create the new, better economy. It just lets someone else come in and manipulate the current system to their liking.
If we don't create structures around them that give the groundwork and make everyone play right, we've accomplished nil.
03/24/09
I take the long view of things. If we are going to mortgage the future of my children and my grandchildren, then I want to ensure that the money is well spent -- not to keep the old ways going when they are clearly obsolescent, but to replace them with something new and better as they are allowed to fade away. I don't want my progeny to have to live through this kind of recession (or depression) ever again.
03/24/09
And the other thing is that I look at this like I look at the War in Iraq. People really only started to get upset about the war because we were losing. It wasn't about questioning our right to invade another country on the flimsiest of evidence. No, it was because we were losing.
I feel the same way about the financial crisis. People are only getting upset because it affects them personally. They aren't going to question an economic climate that encourages people to spend money they don't have and economic policies based on the principle of infinite growth. They just want their jobs and money back.
I have little to no faith in the ability of the American public to perform a serious interrogation of the principles upon which we have based our lives.
