    Considering that the Canadian seal hunt is largely a stopgap measure to equalize damage done to canadian fish stocks by the european fishing fleets, I call asshole on those european parliament guys. Not that seal products are widely seen for sale ANYWHERE other than say, Taiwan and South Korea and the odd furrier. Way to try to claim the moral high ground through hypocrisy.

    I'm very proud of the Maine House & Senate. I am all for rights to vote but I was very happy when the amendment to bring it to the voters failed. I knew they were voting today and was hitting refresh on the local news station website all day long.


    I also hope Gov. Baldacci will not veto it based on his personal feelings.

    @elephantshoes: I heard on NPR today that this feud had been going on since the early '90s. The reporter referred to it as "a blood feud" and the BBC announcer was as freaked out by that term as I was. Really, really sad.

    @elephantshoes: Its really heartbreaking. 44 dead for this?!?! ITs not even as stupid common as war, or an accidental bombing or as random deaths as a political bombing... Its over a fucking wedding it is so Dumb and so Evil at the same time.


    Im not saying that any of those other deaths are acceptable, its just Im at least inured, unfortunately, to those types of things, I cant fathom this

    @elephantshoes: I can't wrap my head around this story. I mean, if the bride's family rejected the other family's son as a potential mate, wouldn't the rejected groom's family realize that mass carnage would confirm that the bride's family had done the right thing by trying to stay the hell away from them? Why would anyone think shooting up a wedding is the way to deal with romantic rejection?

    @Mrs.Raoul LeBlanc: I actually once got in a slight bar skirmish with a guy. I poured a beer on his head and then tried to throw the bottle at him. True to form ("form" being, I'm a ass), I lobbed it more than anything and I think it bounced off an onlooker's toe.


    Still the high point of my life, though. I was defending a friend's honor.

    Tomorrow the NH House votes on marriage equality. It's already passed the House once. Last week the Senate amended it and sent it back to the House, where it's likely to clear again.


    Will our weak Democratic governor who believes marriage is between a man and a woman sign it?

He has said in the past he believes marriage is between a man and a woman since it has passed both the House & Senate with such wide margins he will just sign it. I have been writing letters to my reps. for weeks and now will start writing to him.

    @Penny_Esq: Seriously. My Bubba is next to me looking adorable and (as usual) sad at the state of the world. I wanna slap that girl right in the kisser for all the abused animals of the world. My dog was abused, and it left him fucked ten way to sunday. He can't see another dog without trying to kill it if I'm around, even though if I'm not there he's super sociable. Why is this? Because I'm the first human that was nice to him and he is trying to protect me. Whoever used to have him needs to get his balls removed. (There was a large, deep-voiced man who used to beat him, apparently. Fucker.)

    @Cimorene: Ours was too, we dont know exactly what happened too him and though it was traumatic he's just a bit crazy border collie now but when we first got him from the humane society there were things that had him terrified.

    For the life of me I can still not figure out what his previous owner did to him that had him absolutely frightened of toilet paper. ITs really the most odd thing, when he was first brought home he would freak out if anyone had anything that looked like it in there hand and immediately run into any bathroom to destroy it if he could. HE also has this thing where he hides under the table, though now not cause hes scared but when he wants to avoid being taken out of the kitchen cause of mass cooking or thanksgiving.
