This reminds me of the time some performers in elaborate costumes on stilts came up to me and my little sister years ago at EPCOT Center. My sister started screaming and crying and running, and my parents had to chase after her for about 10 minutes. Good clean terrifying family fun at Disney World, y'all.

@poires et poireaux: I would not say that the term itself denotes a negative meaning but the connotion does, when taken into slander.
It is best that they are described as Romaa simply. The divide between Romanians and the Roma is so huge, it is basically astronomical. There is a lot of racial tension, aggression and mistrust from the Romanians to the Roma, many Romanians believe that the Roma have given Romanians a bad rap... especially in Italy and other countries where Romanian Roma immigrate to.

@bellzar08: Oh yeah, I was in Romania and the Balkans a couple years ago, and there was an incredible amount of Roma-phobia. "Be careful when riding the train; the Gypsies will try to rob you" "That guy? He's the good kind of Gypsy because he got a job." I had a conversation with a schoolteacher from Bucharest on the train, and she said that when she gave out hearts to all of her students because she liked them, this little Roma boy didn't know what to do with it, because he didn't think he was allowed to be liked by non-Roma people.

@Miss. Money-Sterling: That makes sense, but I find it strange because the term Gypsy is erroneous because it assumes that the people immigrated from Egypt. I suppose it's similar to the term "Indian" to describe Native Americans in that respect.
