I always believed Nicole Kidman’s greatest acting role was appearing in public as the devoted wife of Tom Cruise. Mind you, I though her fawning over him was excessive at times as their bitter divorce later proved.
@momo: Seriously. Especially for the Tom/Katie and Brangelina/Jennifer storylines. Practically nothing has happened since each group's drama began, unless you count children huge news. At least Britney and Lindsay actually have had real, new developments. I have no idea why the others are still having the same damn drama printed. Tabloids aren't even trying anymore.
God, what does it mean that I want them to try harder? Shudder.
I know this is an unpopular opinion, but I think in more recent pictures I've seen of Nicole she seems much happier than she has in a while. I think her leaving LA and marrying a fellow Aussie and living a more low-key life in Nashville where all the stars live in the same area and people are used to seeing them out and about has been really good for her. It's almost like she's comfortable now being who she is.
suggestions: Jim Carrey, Barak Obama, Michelle Obama, Madonna, Cher, Chaz Bono, SJP, Charlie Sheen, Neil Patrick Harris, Kelly whats her name from American Idol, Ellen Degeneres, Jessica Simpson, Paris Hilton...can't think of any more right now.
@Island of Misfit Toys: Pamela Anderson, Michael J. Fox. Jude Law, Sienna Miller. Carson Daily, Ryan Seacrest, David Letterman, Jay Leno, Craig Kinnear, Harrison Ford, Calista Flockhart. Robert Downey Junior, Val Kilmer, Robin Williams, Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Julia Roberts, Russel Crowe, poor Meg Ryan's face.
I miss dingbatty, filter-less, bisexual-praying-mantis Angie of yesteryear. She used to be so much fun! (Does anyone recall that epic circa Y2K Esquire mag cover story where she explained that she "takes lovers"--men she's acquainted with that she meets, discretely, for brief hotel-room trysts around the globe?)
I suppose her current Mother Teresa trip is in keeping with becoming a mother and maturing--laudably, I might add--but I still wish she'd occasionally revert to her olde crazy ways for my personal enjoyment.
@cand86: Yeah, like the nugget that she's an Ayn Rand-worshiping libertarian = "so not cool" in Hollywood liberal circles. I totally believe that; it's so in keeping with her contrarian streak.
@snugbug: Its easy to say that but she was in her early 20s 10 years ago.
Not to say your personality changes but I guess you "grow up" a bit between 20 and 30...
There are definitely things I would have said yes to at 23 that at 31 I'm like "yeeah, no thanks."
Can't imagine Angelina is any different.
@bluebears: Agreed. His performance in Two Lovers was really heart-breaking. I keep hoping that his current melt-down is really just a Neil Young-style "fuck you" to his management or something. Anyone else remember when Neil made a rockabilly album just to annoy his record label?
Anyway, looking at photo 18 makes you remember how incredibly handsome he was prior to his frogs-in-my-hair freakout.
@Annabellie: You win for this. Like, so many times over. I'm thinking of printing this out on nice paper and sending it as Christmas cards. Except it would only be funny to me.
@JLady: I'm so glad there are other people who hope La Lohan will get it together someday. I'm almost her exact age - she's either a couple months older or younger than me - and I can't help but thinking that if she was quote-unquote normal, she'd be going to grad school or getting her career started right now. And she'd be a redhead and not have issues with anorexia and move away from her irresponsible family. And find the woman of her dreams, if she so wished.
This is so interesting. I can't believe the things that seem like they JUST happened (Jen and Brad) were that long ago. Or that some of the things happening at the same time (Tom and Nicole) weren't 20 years ago. Wow, memory sure is unreliable.
@sarahmick.86 summer: I literally remember the day that Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes announced they were dating. I was at a friend's house and her t.v. was on some crappy entertainment news show and they announced she was dating a famous male celebrity that she had had a crush on since she was a preteen. We all agreed this was creepy. Little did we know. Ah, naivety.
@sarahmick.86 summer: I think part of the reason why Jen and Brad seems like they just happened is thanks to the tabloids - they keep it fresh in our minds.
@Beets.Go.On is the Fat Yogini: I was thinking the same thing as a went through those pictures. My 10 year reunion this summer didn't make me feel this old!
@elaborate bacon (princessprissypants): I'm sorry, you guys! It makes me feel a bit ancient, as well. More so, it makes me realize how long ago 2000 really was.
@hortense: It is always 2000 in my heart. Seriously. The other day I wrote on a check that it was 1999, not 2009. I received some odd looks and a sense of panic that we are about to start a whole new decade. What has happened to my life?
@ladeedah: I wrote "1999" twice this week, too. Like somehow my brain just doesn't want to deal with everything since then. (I can't always blame it. I like where I'm ending my 20s but dear god was it a mess getting here.)
@Scout: Ha! I remember that. That was pre-Gwynnie, right? I'm always so relieved to find other olds around these parts. Let's go have tea and chase kids off our lawns.
@Chamalla,barren crone: i've already done both this morning/afternoon and now I'm eating vanilla pudding and clipping coupons. you are welcome to join me.
Oh Lord. They all look so young. Especially Lindsay and Britney.
2000 doesn't seem like it was all that long ago, honestly. This decade has gone by amazingly quickly, considering how many awful things happened in it (and good ones too).
@la.donna.pietra: This article was shocking for me, precisely because of the "doesn't seem like it was all that long ago." Whoa. It also made me flash back to my 2000. It seems so recent, yet so far away.
