Wow. That photo=a reminder that event though plus-sized models aren't the normal beauty standard, they are still SO genetically blessed (and thus, models, duh).
@midwestdesigner: I'm not really sure that that high fashion models = the beauty standard. This woman is still a fairly thin, large-chested blond -- pretty close to the standard, I would think. But yes, she's gorgeous.
Look designer peeps and hangers-on, you have to let us fatties be a part of this thing called "fash-un" or we will WALK AROUND NAKED! And that's a promise not a threat.
YEESH! That outfit is awful on that poor girl. "Let's get a 'plus-size' girl and put her in the least flattering thing we can find! That will show them!" Le sigh.
@rodmanstreet: The outfit is fine. It's just a couple of sizes too small for her. That's what happens when you shove a size 8-10 model into a size 2 dress. They should have gotten an appropriately sized dress for her.
@sweetbeans: The worst part is that a pair of skin toned control top panty house would have stood out far, far less than the underwear them put her in, and smoothed the lines
@Evie Havok: Good call. The problem isn't the model's figure -- the problem is the dress.
Yes, I'm a fashion heretic.
(I feel disloyal, too, since the man is at least trying to show on different sizes of women. Elena MirĂ³ has been doing it for years -- someone on his team couldn't get a clue from her?)
When they say "supportive underwear" do they mean something like spanx, or do they mean a bra? I don't really see what's wrong with latter. I'm generally uncomfortable when I'm bra less, so maybe that issue was taken into consideration for the curvier models? But then again, this is the fashion industry. I'm probably just being naive.
EDIT: Oh wait, I think I read that incorrectly, are they saying somebody threw a fit because someone thought it'd be more comfortable for the models to have "supportive underwear?" (Sorry, I'm obviously a little confused)
@Jeenzy: It appears that the stylist who stepped in shoved all the tiny girls underwears on the 'plus' girls which made them look a bit lumpy and may or may not have cut them! Yikes.
So, the presence of some average-sized women who needed to wear actual underwear with the dresses caused a complete meltdown? Further proof that high fashion is more of an abstract concept than an industry dedicated to actually making clothes for people to wear.
Gisele--you are a lovely, vibrant, pregnant celebrity married to a football star. This ALONE ups your chances of a tragic end, but you’re going to throw HELICOPTER PILOT in there? You’d think you’ve never seen an episode of E! True Hollywood Story!
@Highsmith: Piloting plus UN automatically makes me think of Angelina Jolie, actually. Though if you wanted to claim that Angelina is a superhero, I probably wouldn't argue.
@cate3710: I feel even wimpier now that I put a band-aid on my papercut - that I got ... uh ... climbing a dangerous mountain ... no, wait .... saving Bolvian orphans ... actually ... it was wrestling an African lion. Yeah, that's it.
@Penny: Even though the size itself isn't "plus", a model who is size eight to ten is considered plus sized. Size two girls model the stuff for the size eights, size eights for the fourteens!
@Penny: "5:55"--Air wrote all the songs on that album, right? (Look at us, Penny dear, dating ourselves by calling these things "albums.." Ha!) Very charming Euro muzak, but I still think "Lemon Incest" is Mme. Gainsbourg's finest pop music moment yet.
@BlondeGoddess: Really! The Balenciaga campaign should dovetail nicely with her role of grief-stricken mom and homicidal wife in the latest Larsie von Trier flick. According to some Cannes fest-related crap I read, the MPAA is demanding that von Trier re-cut the film, because as is, they won't even release it with an NC-17 rating.. Knowing how mule-ish von Trier is about final cut (and good for him), this might actually mean the film will never land in U.S. theaters.. =(
@snugbug: What happened to freedom of speech (or similar)? People are old enough to make their own choices to see a movie or not without the MPAA censoring. Crap.
Thanks for reminding me of this guy.. Is he still in the shmata trade? A real artist, IMHO. I was so moved by one of his pieces back in 2000--an overcoat he crafted out of the cover of a mattress on which his friend/neighbor Quentin Crisp had ailed and died. A poetic gesture wrought in fabric--although I can see whyit might've sent consumers + critics screaming into the woods.
@Diziet_Sma: She's just modeling for the campaign though, it's not 'stupidly named perfume' BY Charlotte Gainsbourg. I think that's what Watson was getting at. I could be totally wrong though.
@Diziet_Sma: Ah...yes....but...argh. Charlotte's a MUSE! She and Nicholas have a really close relationship and he's often talked about how much she inspires him. Whatever, I love her, I will defend anything she does, let's face it!

You and me both, buddy...though is he saying they're untalented? I don't think talent and non-bitchery are mutually exclusive. It's kind of a destructive mental construct to have.
