20 years fighting for women's rights while also serving on the Financial Services Committee = perfect to replace HRC while also being totes in the know about the current Global Economic Meltdown (TM).
Carolyn Maloney, dammit!

The value is information, receiving more non-violent surrenders, and the moral high ground. Our friends on the other side of the guns could care less, if they capture US Servicemen . . .

Geesh.
You people really know how to take make people who support her feel bad.
I mean it won't be the end of the world if she gets the seat.

I agree with you totally. There are lots of "qualified" candidates who have done a really shitty job in Congress. I think people categorically object to this entitlement issue, but your last name shouldn't hinder you either.

A number of smaller-but-respected names (Nita Lowey) have pulled themselves out of the running, so would New Yorkers rather have Kennedy or Andrew Cuomo? Or the governor could surprise everyone and appoint a Republican like Rep. Peter King (who has expressed an interest in the seat). Is that really better than Kennedy?

Despite all that, she is an author, has a law degree, raised three children, has worked to help the NYC school system, raised millions of dollars for the arts in NY state, directed the Profiles in Courage awards and been a really useful public citizen. She's gracious and self-effacing and the farthest thing from a publicity hound. Anyone who has ever met her respects her. And this is bad?

I understand the "fundraising" logic sports star mentioned above, and I want Paterson elected, but this seems like bad logic for new yorkers.

Is it wrong if I like Jindal? Make that Jindal/Palin and it's slightly less scary.

CNN is one of the participants in the war. I have a fantasy where Ted Turner is elected president but refuses because he doesn't want to give up power.

OK, back to the matters at hand.
Every time I hear Baucus' name, I think of Mr. Magoo.

I'm going to put out a press release which contains the phrases "James McAvoy, her sex slave", "millionaire" and "recently elected High Queen of Twinkies" and see what happens in 2012!

On an unrelated note, can we talk about Rob Riggle leaving the Daily Show? Cuz I has the sad.

@pantsless economist: The thing is, Warner is not only GREAT at spending lots of time campaigning and meeting voters in rural areas, which is essentially how he won, but he didn't have the Hillary connection, which I think will hurt McAuliffe, sadly. Tim Kaine got help getting elected by riding Warner's Coattail's and with the help of the general tide going towards democrats during Bush's 2nd term. McAuliffe would have have to run one HELL of a campaign to be elected.

A Caroline Kennedy/J Lo comparison is exactly as horrible as I feel a Kennedy/Obama comparison is.
Just so's you know.
