I also understand why the Travoltas wouldn't treat seizures - the treatment is tranquillizers - I for one would rather deal with seizures rather than be or watch my child tranquilized.
I feel for them, I don't know what could have been done to keep him more safe, I'm sure something could have been done but in hindsight it's always easy to judge.

The teacher that knew of my child's diagnosis treated my child like an incompetent individual, retarded and unable to learn. Which was the opposite of the truth. But believe me, it is not an uncommon stereotype. So screw all of you for judging any parent for simply doing what they feel is best for their child.
No one is obligated to be the Role Model for a disease. Let them grieve in peace. They had the kid on seizure meds, for goodness sakes. What on earth do you want from them?

You do what you need to do. I am so sorry that your child had to undergo that kind of treatment, and I hope that as the years go by, you find yourself and your family surrounded by an ever-greater circle of wise and informed people: family, educators and folks on the street.
And I agree about the Travoltas. Whatever we may think about what they believe, they should be left entirely alone. We are in no position to judge. Is there an opposite of that position? Because that's what we, the general public who know neither them or their pain, are in.

Brian was always my favorite. I know I frequently comment on these threads about the loud music I like, but I respect talent in all its forms, and those boys can *sing*. And I really loved him for some reason.
I actually did some PR for them, when I briefly worked at a record company in a foreign land, and when I ran into AJ, Kevin and Nick at an airport a few years later, they could NOT have been sweeter. But I was bummed, because Brian wasn't with them.... (But mah gracious if that Kevin isn't dreamy!)

FOR REAL. Once again, I'll have to pretend to be a terminally ill child to get something I want.

As I recall, the kid had no qualifications for being involved in that except for the fact that he was young himself. He was definitely not a doctor. Plus, he was almost bald back then. And his voice was high and annoying, not lower and attractive and... um... er, what were we talking about?

I do think it would be nice to have some more information available to people since it is being more common and there is so much misinformation out there. I'm glad there are some celebrities that are trying to get correct information out there.

seeing brian litrell always reminds me of his werewolf persona in that halloween-y music video.
lastly- have these doctors treated Jett Travolta? At the end of the clip, the doc says his Kawasaki syndrome has nothing to do with his seizures. I know nothing about medicine and I tend to believe that that is probably true, but should he be making such a blatent statement without reminding people that he's never treated Jett?

It probably would have been better to make that point without mentioning Jett Travolta by name, though.

Second of all, I think that it's great that they're talking about Kawasaki Syndrome, a little-known disease that obviously made national headlines not long ago. I think that it's great that this kind of awareness is spreading.
BUT.
Do they have to do things like emphasize that seizures are not part of the disease? Really? I mean, yeah, Jett probably did have autism, and it should have been diagnosed, and Scientology is probably to blame for him not getting treatment. But does a show that's supposed to be spreading awareness about Kawasaki Syndrome REALLY have to turn into a "the Travoltas are full of shit" platform?

01/22/09
It just makes me sad that Kawasaki Syndrome is now known only as "the disease that Jett Travolta didn't really have". Which probably isn't that helpful for parents whose kids really do have it.
