I hate this because in '04 I really liked John Edwards. I hate this because I have his book. I hate this because my friend sent me a "John Edwards is Hot" shirt she bought on the street in Boston. I still have that shirt, something I'd blocked out till just now. I hate this because he seemed like a smart, charismatic figure who would have been good for the Dems and he's become...this? Tabloid fodder?
And I really hate this because as sad as I was the day after the presidential election in '04, I felt even worse when I found out Elizabeth had cancer. She's been through the ringer, and so have her kids.

What gets me is her two youngest kids. If she dies, John is the only parent left. Not to say that he can't be a decent parent and a shitty spouse, but still. If my mom died and my dad was such an asshat, I'd need lots of therapy. But perhaps I shouldn't project.

Divorce is the surest way to make sure that Elizabeth's children get the lion's share of their father's money, even if he marries Rielle Hunter after Elizabeth dies.

I feel so bad for John and Elizabeth's older daughter. The younger two kids are probably still a little too young to fully understand what's going on, but this must be awful for the older one.

It's not her responsibility to create a happy family between her children and her husbands mistresses daughter. I know it's important to 'think of the children' but that is a lot to ask of a woman who has so fundamentally been betrayed

I'm still figuring out how "Poor New Baby" works;
the kid wouldn't be here if her parents weren't jerks;
and it's not like John's been carried out on a gurney.
He can still make a living. He's still an attorney.
If his assets get snatched 'cause his actions were rash,
he should find for the new kid a source of new cash,
and bypass all those lingering pretty-boy tropes,
mulling over if he's finally learned something.
