I have no reason to post this vid other than the fact that I love it. I love the breakdancing in the beginning. How E. Badu cleverly summed up her relationship with hip-hop (and pays homage to the originators). And how they created a video that accurately depicted the many changes hip-hop has gone through in the past 3+ decades. From breakdancing to rapping to d-jaying.

My son is a genius at doing The Worm.

The sight of him doing it across a stage in Jamaica at age 6 - pure gold. My would ribs would shatter like cheap glass if I tried it.

Duuuude. Is it Carlton day today for me or what? I was at Target and almost bought the husband a Carlton T-shirt, but it was a truly heinous shade of yellow. And then I come home to MORE CARLTON!!

Seriously, if he wore this color around me, I'd go blind:

Wow! Who knew "Der Kommisar" was good for breakin' and poppin'?!?! Alfonso Ribeiro knew, that's who!

I recall my only dance move to that song was the 'lightning-strike full-body-shockwave'. The 'caterpillar' was waaaay cooler.

@Plum-Pie: I will never forget Charlie Brookers review of Yo Gabba Gabba. LOL.
"Watching Yo Gabba Gabba is a bit like having a dose of sugar amphetaminse shot straight into your eyes. The kingdom of Yo Gabba Gabba is overseen by a mad DJ who stole on of Jamiroquai's hats. Including friends such as cycloptic penis with a case of genital warts."

I love that YGG has come up more than once on this post. If you go to You Tube and search for "Kids Watching Yo Gabba Gabba" the results are hilarious. That show has some strange effect on children, mine included.

Also, did I dream this, but did breakdancing enjoy some sort of comeback in the mid-nineties or something? Because I seem to remember a few select douchetards at my high school "breaking" on flattened cardboard boxes, but I was too busy listening to Bikini Kill and putting baby barrettes in my hair to know if it was just them or not.

@Phyllis Nefler: I don't think that it ever really went away; at least not in some communities. There was a point when it went pretty mainstream, which may be when you witnessed the "douchetards" at your school doing it.

The kids I knew, never really stopped.

    THIS!!

I was recently rained in with my toddler which lead me to desperately seek any music related movies on the TV. We wound up watching the dancing parts of Step It Up about a jillion times in a row last week. We were both trying to copy all the moves.

It lead me to my next endeavor. All the moms in my play group are doing pole dance classes which I REFUSE to do. I am fully aware of how to seduce my husband thank you very much! So now I am looking for Breakdancing classes. Is that too weird? Do they even offer classes or do I have to find a little dance gang on the street to teach me?

@Slumdog_Mamabear: Yes you can haz breakdancing classes! I used to street dancing which is like all of it mixed up and it was awesome and hurt like a mofo! But great exerecise and loads of fun. I would totally veto the pole dancing classes too.

Wow! I thought I had it rough being raised by heathen hippie types who drank beer and got divorced and stuff. How long did you live there?

There are times that I miss my mountains and that tight feeling of community that comes from being not of the dominant culture. But I can't imagine raising children there.

I love talking to other ex Utahans...no one else really understands that it is like living in another country sometimes.

However, when I look around, I realize that it is such a beautiful place to be from...aesthetically. However, we were black, southern baptists, so that made living there a bit tricky.
