I do not want to be cruel, but. She is an adult, and she chose to be a mother and then proved she is very bad at it. I understand that her childhood was a sad mish-mash of celebrity where she did not get a chance to be a child and that she is obviously mentally ill. I have many mentally ill friends in the same way as she is, but they are also complex, wonderful, mature individuals who struggle and do not get free passes.
I have yet to see any aspect of Britney's adult personality that isn't sad, and gauche, and self-indulgent, and self-involved. And yet also something of a blank slate, without complex morality, or, well, complex anything. I do feel sorry for her, I suppose; she will probably never be whole. But pity isn't a kind emotion. And she's no longer a child.
I wish her no ill, but I do wish she'd fade away from the spotlight. (And the picture above and that smile! Disturbing)
But maybe as a culture we continue to reflect on her what we want to see, and who we want the poor thing to be.

I don't think mental illness after bearing a child (i.e., PPD) proves anything about her capacity as a mother. She's sick, with an illness.
That's like saying, "well, the cancer after her marriage made her a bad wife."

But I don't think mental illness should be a dismissal of all her issues; as screwed up as she is, she doesn't deserve to be that simplified. (In good and bad ways) OF course, I believe the constant simplification of her throughout her life is a massive part of the problem.
