Boredom is often associated with a lack of mental activity brought on by a boring lecture or a painful date (for instance). But it actually turns out that being bored barely takes less brain activity than being active and that it serves a role in the brain of making you get off your ass (physically or metaphorically) and do something else. I'd talk about this topic a little more, but I'm kind of bored by it. [NY Times]

I just sent the above video to Dodai via instant messenger and waited for her response. After 15 seconds, I had yet to hear anyting back. Then she IM'd me a "crying" emoticon. A half-minute later, a "blushing" emoticon came over the iChat transom. Finally she ended with: "Actually, there is no emoticon for what I am doing right now, which is cringing, laughing, and crying all at once."
