@copious: Yeah, that's called thrush. It's not uncommon. My lezebel friend got it from going down on her girlfriend that had a vaginal yeast infection. Yikes!
Any science Jezzies here? I would assume sharing nasal spray COULD, in rare cases, lead to the transfer of an STD from one person to another. Since many diseases are transferred via mucous membranes, and the inside of your nose is a mucous membrane, wouldn't any disease transfer if, say, you had a cut inside your nose?
@chatterboxwriting: Theoretically you could get an STD in your nose that way, but the virus you sprayed up your nose would have to be present in large quantities in the sprayer. The quantity of HIV virus for example would be very low in that situation.
Thanks so much for this episode. I really needed a good laugh. I just got home to find that my dogs ate three bags of chocolate chips and shat all over the place, the smell is horrid.
How could you possibly get an STD from a nose spray? Are you using it on your vagina??? If you are, and it burns, there is likely a different explanation...
@irregardless38: Seriously. Your nose spray, your ped-egg, your deoderant, and you tooth brush are all individual use items in my opinion.
I had a friend come into my room and try on all my deoderants a few months ago. We had a huge fight and I had to buy all new stuff because of arm-pit germs.
@Snowbunny: Wait...I just read your comment again. Try on 'all your deodorants?' How many do you have? This is like, a question of curiosity, not judgment...
Things I enjoy trying on: perfume, lipstick, nail polish. Other people's deodorant has never once crossed my mind, even if it smells good. (I may open it and sniff.)
@SpasticFurchild: @snappletree: I have the clinical strength stuff for when I have to move around a lot (I teach kids in the summer, ect), I have regular stick stuff for normal every day use, I have clear gel for sleeveless/strapless dresses, and I have some different scents of regular for if I want to smell like a papaya or a spring rain. My armpits have many needs.
The wiping question is legit! As the daughter of an MD and an RN, I can tell you that I still remember the toilet-training mantra of front-to-back. If you do otherwise, you risk painful kidney stones, the result of what Tracie mentions.
@Kater Tot: And UTIs, as I learned the hard way in the 6th grade.
When I got one recently, I knew exactly what it was. The nurse was all like, "Oh, you've had one of these before? When?" and I was embarrassed to be like, "When I was 11," because I thought that would make me sound like I was bonking at age 11, so then I had to be all like, "I was wiping the wrong way," as though that made it so much cooler.
Yeast infections under your breast are not that uncommon, particularly with women with large breasts. Usually it just looks like a rash, is super-itchy and gets irritated easily. In extreme cases, it can sort of smell. We used to tell women to use OTC antifungal or tea tree oil. That'll usually knock it out. Then use powder (like Gold Bond) under your tit-tays to catch the sweat. I find that people are disproportionately galled by the crazy things that body can do...but sweat is sweat and moistness is a breeding ground for bacteria/fungi no matter what body part it is. I think it's the look of horror that keeps people from being honest about symptoms they are experiencing because they are made to feel ashamed.
@Penny Plastic (Archetype): Yep. Anywhere skin touches skin and moistness can be trapped (i.e. skin folds) is usually an ideal place for bacteria and fungi to take residence.
Even diaper rashes are fungal infections. Even cutesy babies get it...see, it's not so weird now.
@SpasticFurchild: It is now 11:11 p.m. EST and I just realized it is FRIDAY, thanks to your comment. I seriously thought that it was Thursday for the entire day today. Working from home is hard on the internal calendar/clock.
Oh, Tracie, I totally feel your pain. My sister in law was telling me all about underboob yeast about a year ago and it ruined my life for a little while. Horrifying.
