Their prints have always been too whimsically wallpaper-ish for my taste, and what I hear about their socioeconomic self-image squicks me out. But Michelle would completely rock that last purple dress, and many of their cardigans are totally her as well.

The woman I babysit for brought me this catalog when I was in the hospital last summer. I was surprised at the clothes, they're really cute. I think she'd look great in anything, but I'd LOVE to see her in the purple dress.
Which reminds me I never did order that coat I picked out...
Even the first set of heads look photoshopped in for the last photo. Is it just me or is that guy's head about 5 sizes too big for his body? I thought only female models strived (strove?) for the bobble head look.
@puppy_plz: @SunburnedCounsel: Most First Ladies wear American designers. It is kind of an unspoken rule. So far Michele has done this. It seems a little silly that she would break that to buy clothing from a giant British conglomerate. Just saying.
@saintbernadette: Well, actually, most first ladies have a favorite American designer or two. Hilary Clinton and Laura Bush weren't particularly fashion-forward. But Nancy Reagan was a fashion plate.
Interesting - i suppose when i think about it Boden is sort of J Crew for the UK it's just that i find myself unable to shop with it because it is forever tainted by a certain type of smug Chiswick mother who lunches a lot and holidays in Cornwall, darling. I really must get a grip on my inverted snobbery, maybe Michelle Obama will help.
@ihateyourescalade: hahahaa, thank you, I feel better now about my irrational dislike of their clothes (which is really an irrational dislike of the lifestyle they sell).
@emilyanne: The Boden-wearing mom has two children, over whom she hovers constantly. The 4-year-old, Schuyler, goes to a progressive pre-school, supplemented with Mommy & Me classes in Chinese and rhythmic movement. Seven-month-old Tanner stays with an illegal, $5-an-hour nanny three times a week so Mommy can keep in shape with her Bikram Yoga class. She shops at Whole Foods and recycles, but drives her Escalade to do both. She stiffs the nanny on holiday tips so she can afford more Boden sundresses.
@Benevolent_Dictatrix I must I must increase my bust!: No joke, the Press Briefing Room is built over an indoor pool used by FDR. I keep expecting to come open like the gym in "It's a Wonderful Life". In terms of outdoors, there's definetely a putting green (thanks Ike!) but I don't think there's a pool.
