I'm all for limiting kids' exposure to pernicious media. But isn't putting them into some kind of no-tech bubble going to make it harder for them to get by in the real world once they leave the fancy-pants Waldorf School?
If a shot is fired at a bounty hunter, is it really news? Isn't that part of the job description? Kind of like reading in the news "Stay At Home Mom Pelted By Something Stinky; Mom Recovering Nicely."
There's nothing inherently wrong with being a model-slash-aspiring actress, or with being 23, or with being both of those things simultaneously. That is, until you find yourself trapped within either physical or linguistic spitting distance of John Mayer. Inauspicious for you, and gagworthy for the hapless media consumer who'll be forced to read about it later.
Gerard Butler, now - there's a womanizing skeeve I can get behind. If this is to be your niche, Jen, kudos on finally developing a sense of entitlement to the best it has to offer!
I went to Perez's site to look at the Gavin Rossdale thing, and now I feel dirty. He's still doing cum dribbles? Good fuckin' grief, dude.
And I'm guessing if there was a relationship, Gwen knows and is cool with it. So what's the big deal? I'm presuming he's not keeping it a big dark secret from Gwen-if he was, that might be a problem. Doesn't mean, as Perez hopes, that he's gay.
@MockMyWorld: Really? I think Marilyn should be ashamed of his lack of class, and that would stand if he had been a secret girlfriend as well. Gavin has kids now. It's really inappropriate and shows a lack of respect for whatever they used to have.
@Bunsen Honeydew: Well, denying a relationship of five years' standing, presumably to better your chances of breaking into a gay-unfriendly but extremely lucrative market, might be said to show a similar lack of respect for whatever they had, no?
Honestly, though, I don't know enough about this situation to fairly assess the ethics of anybody involved. I just know it added a bit of dimension to someone who previously bored me to tears!
@cwisto moweina has got yer goat: No you are not. It seems like adding yet another person who is not a permanent caretaker to the situation is a lot for a young child to process.
@cwisto moweina has got yer goat: @LaFemme: I mean, this kid is in an orphange. Not-related adults are pretty much what she's got and the more of them there are to care for her (as long as they are properly doing so) the better IMO.
It's the hired-proxy-of-the-mega-rich-famous-lady-who's-trying-to-take-me-away angle that weirds me out.
there's someone taking care of her that isn't her guardian or an employee of the orphanage. It wouldn't be weird if she wasn't an orphan and was being babysat by a random adult, but the orphanage shouldn't need someone else's help taking care of her.
Even if there was no money exchanged, it seems like she was rented out for the weekend, you know?
To me, even if she were "rented out for the weekend" that's no different from foster parents really - or Big Brothers/Big Sisters - so long as they are actually people who are interested in taking care of her.
It is Madonna's influence specifically that gives me the heebs (Kaballah pun not intended). I think her interest in the girl is weird and appropriative. Like, "Ooh let me have that behbeh! And if I can't have it I'm going to pay someone to go keep an eye on it until I can figure out how to get it."
@cwisto moweina has got yer goat: Actually, many children in orphanages around the world are placed in foster care with non-relatives. In my daughter's birth country, there are even orphanages that move children to foster care once they have been referred for adoption so that they can become accustomed to living in a family unit.
So, as a general rule, it's not that weird that she would be staying with a non-related adult. However, I agree with @MizJenkins that there is something a little disturbing about the degree of Madonna's continued involvement.
@doodley is not amused: I don't think it's disturbing given that her appeal is still pending and will be heard next month. After that it would be weird.
@MizJenkins: @doodley is not amused: ok, you've convinced me. I didn't mean to come across as judgey. t just rubbed me the wrong way, I guess because I'm not familiar with, um, orphan habitation processes? I'm not sure what to call them.
I agree with Miz J tho, something about this is skeeving me out and it's probably Madge's involvement.
@Maritsa: I think it's weird either way. For starters, if she cares about being this girl's mother why isn't the girl under her care pending the outcome of the appeal? And if not, why wasn't the child fine being cared for where she was, perhaps with added financial assistance from Madge?
Again, this feels more like she wants "dibs" on the kid as opposed to actually wanting to nurture her.
@Sophie needs to study...damn: I love him, but after the vaudeville weirdness at the end of the last concert and the whole Smashing Pumpkins name assiness, I am reconsidering my position.

@MockMyWorld: Also agreed, but don't encourage them. I promise you Gavin Rossdale is still by and large uninteresting. Pretty hair though.

um, am I the only one who finds a child staying with a non-related adult a little weird? potential adoptive mom's nanny or not.
